Trick-or-Treating

Vanloads of kids would come by. Cars would come to a stop and all doors would open at once and kids would literally pour out. Buses would drop kids off on the corner and the masses would hit the streets.
I could never imagine taking Ty to some neighborhood I didn't know and just letting him go to collect bags of candy he'll never eat. I guess I'm a meam mommy. We'll go to family and close friends and he'll get a small treasure chest full of candy that I'll end up throwing half of away at Christmas time when it gets restocked.

This is going to be an interesting Halloween being new to this area. I guess I'll take the kids door to door here.

My boys haven't even picked a costume yet.

Sounds like I'll be teaching my son some tricks to pull when you don't get treats. Soap, eggs, firecrackers. Sounds like fun
12G. trumps eggs and firecrackers anyday.

I'm a mean mommy too. Noah will tell you so himself. He has his little plastic ghost bucket and I'll take him up and down my parents street and to a couple other people I know in the neighborhood.

Hopefully, St. Mary's County won't "designate" the 30th for Trick-or-Treating. They did that before, within the last 10 years, and it really just screws the whole weekend up! Some county's will probably screw this up for the kids - hopefully St. Mary's won't!

Halloween is the 31st. 'nuff said!

Wal-Mart and Target.
The boy fills his plastic ghost bucket 6 or 7 times.
Then we hit the neighborhood.

The BOCC just officially recognized October 31st as trick-or-treat night in St. Mary's County

Re: Trick or Treating

Sigh...another great holiday for kids that parents have stepped in and screwed up. Remember in elementary school the Halloween parties each class would have? Seems that now they can't call them "Halloween" parties, but rather, "Autumn Festivals", or some such. Thanks to misguided parents, out of fear of devil worship and all things witches, goblins, and ghosts, you really can't use the term Halloween anymore. These are the same parents that grew up when we did in the 60s and 70s and enjoyed trick or treating, but have decided now that this is bad for their kids. Why?

What was wrong with making carmel apples and watching, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" (with the Dolly Madison commercials)? Watching all the "Chiller" theater channels on TV leading up to Halloween (such as WTOP Channel 9's "Sir Graves Ghastly", WDCA Channel 20's "Count Gore de Vol", or earlier, WDCA Channel 20's, "Great Zucchini", or WBFF (Baltimore) Channel 45's, "Ghost Host"? Remember Trick or Treat for UNICEF? Best I can remember, we didn't "worship the devil", we just enjoyed dressing up as scary monsters and such, and would take our (preferred) pillow cases to load up on candy on Halloween. What's the problem today, parents? You are denying your kids of a lot of innocent fun, all because of your "enlightened" view of the world since that time long ago. Your views of child rearing have not been the solution to kids' woes, in fact, why do we have so many kids on Ritalin and in Special Education now?
