Been there done that. 29 yrs ago chow chow--cost me over 2k for him and after he bit me (and tried to bite everyone else) he became a guard dog at Raiford prison in Fla. Still have the scars on my right hand to show for it. (didn't scare me off the breed tho-have a chow (#4) to this day)

do it before one of your children has a scar.

Sorry.. off the aggresive subject.. but I had chows!!! loved them!!!

okay- back to Murphy... You certainly don't want him to get ahold of the kids. A week is a very short time for so much drama!

Pixie: It's not an easy choice to have to give up an animal... But you would kick yourself in the a** if the dog did any damage to any of your family. Take him back to the shelter.... :( sorry.

If he ever gets bitten by a dog that showed this "normal" behavior I'm not gonna feel sorry for him.....
I've been bitten by a dog who showed this normal behavior.
It was my own fault and I never expected sympathy.
I knew the dog was one of the types who might bite, but I tried to roughhouse with him anyway.

But it was a "leave me alone" bite... not a "I'm going to attack the hell out of you" bite. Some dogs just aren't social. Doesn't mean they're dangerous to everybody, but they might be dangerous to kids, who don't understand or comprehend that not all dogs are the same.

Give the dog up. Take it back. Give it away. But I don't see any reason at this time to have it put down. That's just my $0.02, but since it isn't welcome in a public thread where you opened yourself up for people's inputs, I'll just shut my trap in this thread now.

Why didn't you shorten it by saying "I will, STFU now"?

And in those "few" weeks, he could do more than just "snap" at you. Your first priority is to your children. I would take Murphy back to the shelter; I'm sure they would understand and take him back.
Guess you didn't see the first part of my my post. :bubble: I was trying to understand her dilemma.

Let me tell you what...I have 5 large dogs...Boxers and average 70 lbs...If I want to pull their toes they damm better site let me..If I want to ram my hand down their throat for a piece of the best steak they damm better site let me.. I trust all my dogs with people/kids. I would trust Pixies son to come over and lay with my dogs while they ate a bone..he could even pull the bone from their mouth...I have taught all mine since puppies...I tolorate no crap..I do nails I can even scrape tarter from their teeth. But I can not keep them from scrapping amungst them selves...good luck Pixie you are doing the right thing..(I hope) that is getting rid of the sucka...

I'm like that too with Mily. And have been with every other dog I've ever owned. I'm top biatch and I don't have to play dominance games to get that position. I have never had to roll Mily or pin her to let her know I'm the boss. She's just an all around good dog. She misbehaves on occasion and a firm voice is all I need. I have never feared taking something out of her mouth or picking up her food bowl and certainly not clipping her nails. That's the way it should be. I'm the mommy and she's the puppy, end of story.

:yeahthat: That is also how I've raised my girls. I hope whatever decision you make is the best for you. I would like to believe that there is a perfect - or better - match for Murphy out there, ensuring safety for you and yours and happiness for the him.

Him not being a puppy might be the problem. He's already learned certian behaviors that, while they might have aided in his survival, aren't acceptable around small children.

Not trying to be funny or anything Pixie but maybe you and others should pray for this hard-time-adjusting dog

I just got off the phone with God and He said that Noah, Grady and Mily have already put in a request for the dog to get gone. He said to tell you sorry - first come, first served.

Other then lifting his leg on Mily he's been really good. He's about a year old, all his shots are done for a year. He comes with crate and bed, leash, 3 months of Frontline (flea stuff) and 6 months of heartworm stuff. I don't have a picture of him cause my house isn't set up enough yet to worry about the computer and I have no clue where the camera is. You're more then welcome to stop by and see him.
