I believe the economy of our country is at a point now, after what 150 years of industrialization, that people who work 40 hours a week deserve the basics of life, even if that means they work in the service industry. We're a country of abundance and people who work deserve shelter, food, and healthcare.
And I believe nothing remotely like that. You are a socialist/communist and I never will be.

Are smartphones, fake nails, internet access, expensive cars, tattoos, body piercings, Starbucks coffee, considered basics of life?

Maybe if they didn't buy those things, they'd have more income for the other things.

I get where you're coming from. Everything has changed over the years. When I was 19 in the mid 70s, my office job paid under $4 an hour. Yet I had my own apartment, health insurance, bought groceries, etc. and so did most of my friends. I had never even heard of public assistance. Living expenses are so high now it's impossible to make ends meet at a low wage.

You're in the wrong country, you want one of those socialistic countries.

$4/hour in 1975 is the equivalent of $19.36/hour now.

When I got my first job as an engineer, it paid $9/hour.

It's all relative..and no socialist "everybody gets a check" program has ever survived past the destruction of whatever economy it was tried in.

My son with disabilities started his job at minimum wage. He also recieves some federal assistance in the form of a very small (typically, under $20.) monthly SSI check (dependent on the amount of money he earns per month, and also based on his receiving food, room & board here in this house) AND he receives a monthly SSDI check (because he receives SS Disability based on his own work history credits).

Of course he can't live on the minimum wage, nor can he even really live on the amount he receives in assistance at this point. (However, the assistance would go up if he was out on his own, and he would also likely qualify on a state level for food stamps. )

BUT! My son, with limited skills and as compared to someone who is not disabled - just got a raise. Without college - only a HS diploma. (he even asked for the raise, since he was being given more responsibilities!) If he can do this with his limited skill set - then other people with HS diplomas can, as well. My point is to say that if you work hard, and keep increasing in your skill set by training and learning, - you can earn more money. And then you keep getting better jobs. This is not rocket science.

The problem isn't that they can't earn money. They are lazy and don't want to work for it.

You would be surprised at the amount of time and "work" people put in to keeping their state aid so they don't have to work. Boggles the mind!

yeah, body piercings are causing people to miss rent payments

Check out this:

The most educated generation in this country’s existence will have the lowest amount of wealth at age 35 since they are saddled with immense debt just so they can be employed at a livable wage.

These types of inequalities will lead to some type of revolution, I hope it’s peaceful.

Guess your generation shouldn't have gotten Degree's in Pencil Sharpening and Masturbation.... A better choice would have been to become a Union Plumber and get paid while you earn a Plumbing and Gas Fitting Master License in DC.
You would be making about 125,000 a year right now.... And not live at home.
Life is all about making choices peanut..... You crybaby Millennials need to make better choices....

did someone hold a gun to their head
They were graduating school in the late 2000’s and the financial crisis caused by Bush caused record unemployment, not sure if you heard of the Great Recession.

So yes, in effect a gun was held to their head, for survival they had to get a job and companies that paid decent were only considering college grads...and what did college’s do? Continue to increase the cost of college tuition with really no improvement in the level of education.

The economy is better now because of Trump, we recognize most degrees are a joke, but 10 years ago that wasn’t the case. I get there seems to be some type of collective amnesia here, but 2007-2009 was a scary time for the economy, especially for those who were just starting in their career.

And for the comments that “well they should be plumbers or mechanics”, the only reason that those jobs are paying high wages are because there is a lack of skilled labor. The same was true of pharmacists a few years ago, now the market is flooded with them. I guarantee you in a few years there will be a glut of plumbers, welders, and mechanics due to the younger generation going into trade schools. It’s actually already happening to welders...

Body piercings and tattoos cost money. Priorities was my point, which you obtusely avoid.

I didn't force anyone to take out hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loan debt getting degrees that will most likely never yield enough income to pay them off.
