Fine then, take the TV and laptop out in the middle of the yard and smash it with a bat and give the child a book.

:eyebrow:

Nope. I can't do that.

Everyone obviously thinks it's okay to have a child so submerged in ipods, videos, TV, cellphones and texting that it doesn't matter.

I find it grotesque.

We have followed the trend and we now have monsters.

I am talking about my own son. He will not open a book and the "library" is a foreign word.

I am a biatch for trying to get things back on track. Maybe I am just out of the loop and this is the way children and adults are supposed to be...now

I don't know what to tell you wenchy. I wouldn't be able to run this house without all my boys do. They have more duties and responsibilities than most, especially my oldest, but even they spend far too much time submerged in technology from time-to-time. It is really easy to do, because it is available to them. And also, there are times I don't lead a very good example with my own indulgences in technology just like you perhaps don't. That perhaps many of us don't. :jameo:

Now, I am the ##### as always.

Can I be mean to you for a minute?

(Assuming an affirmative answer...)

So stop being a #####.

There has to be more than one room in the house, right? So kiddo is watching TV and playing a video game, you go somewhere else. If he's occupied, he's not being a P in your A, right? So go outside, go hibernate in the bedroom, go find something to do.

He's happy, you're happy, nobody's the #####. :yay:

I would like to watch the TV if it was available. Instead, I watch my shows online.

You know as well as some others I hate talking or texting on the cell.

I don't see a solution, and am asking for one.

It's not a "home" when all you are is a robot who has to fix meals for the cyborgs.

That's motherhood and the reason I work out of the home. I have clearly said it takes a special person to stay home and raise children and I am not one of them. Motherhood isn't full of admiration and constant appreciation.

You can be mean.

I was nice at first.

It was hot outside and after two hours of reading I went into the kitchen for some cool air. I asked nicely for the TV to be turned off so the volume didn't compete with the video game. Half an hour later the TV was back on.

You can be mean, and I was mean, no doubt, but there was also disrespect.

Do children even play outside anymore or respect their parents?

You're a LOON :)
Okay your son is doing something you don't like. Simple.. tell him to turn one or the other off... or both. You wanna watch tv? Sit down and watch it. You wanna read a book? Send him to his room or you go to yours. A laptop is mobile.

When my kids think I am being a #####.. i say GOOD I AM DOING MY JOB!

You raised him didn't you? Did you teach him respect?

In the 50's I watched what my parents had the TV tuned to and liked it. If I didn't, I'd just have to lump it because the channel wasn't going to change. Fortunately in the early afternoon I was always outside playing which was a whole lot better than watching the soaps that Mom just had to watch.

My kids are 11 and 14 and they play outside all day everyday. I have to force them to come in when it gets dark outside. And yes they actually play too. Basketball, Hide and seek, football, etc. As far as the disrespect is concerned, it is all in what you allow. I have friends that allow their kids to tell them to shut up. My kids know better than to say that to me or my hubby. They know there would be consequences. It's all in what you teach them.
