TV and Computer

I did for hours, and it got too hot and humid. I just want a happy cool space and stood in the kitchen to read. One noise I can deal with. Two? No.

Now, I am the ##### as always.

I don't let them have the sound on the games. I can't concentrate with that much noise either. I do get on my laptop and watch TV at the same time myself.

Computers, cell phones, Ipods, etc., are the way we entertain ourselves and communicate these days. Kids don't have to run a string between 2 tin cans anymore.

Some people adapt and use these changes in tehcnology for their convenience, others don't.

Wow, you are so insightful. I'm overwhelmed. :faint:

I guess I'm a semi-mean mom. I let them have the laptop on with the TV on, but then if I want the TV because I'm making dinner, then I get it.

But then, I also limit the computer usage. They don't have all the other trappings of modern technology. We don't have an XBox, Play Station, Wii or whatever they're called -mainly because of Thing1's tendency to play those types of games to the point of OCD-like behavior. Besides, I told them they had to save their money if they wanted those, since I don't trade in my cars as often as those game systems come out with newer models.

They each have a Nintendo DS & my older son plays that constantly. It's ok, but he gets overly frustrated at times & I have to make him go do other things. (Thing2 has more varied interests & doesn't play DS all the time. ) If the DS noise interferes with all the other noises in the main area where everyone else is, then I make them use it in their room or another place.

They don't text because they just got a cell phone for trips, summer camp/after school activities. It's a Virgin Mobile phone, but has no texting on it. They don't have Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc. But then - neither do I. (Oh, yeah - they help me in the yard and also have chores to do, too.)

Thanks for the cliff notes version.
