I understand that.
Its gets old when so many just mention the bad parts they have seen. Then they associate all Unions and its members as being that way.

And I agree. Myself I never would have went to work for a company that I worked for the company under a Union Umbrella.
Like the UAW.

My son was one of about 20 in the Tech Center at HS Grad, that was offered an Apprenticeship in the Wash, DC Plumbers and Gas Fitters Local 5
If he would have taken it his Apprenticeship would now be over.
$125,000 a year before any OT. Thats tough to beat.

Its for non union workers to get scale Union pay, when working on a State/gov job.
Yep that makes sense as I was working in a Govt' building at that time

Why would you think it doesn't cost any money, The cost is negotiated within the Union contract.
He means no cost to the employee. Point being "I only make 36k a year" but if you get a 10k a year health plan, you are effectively making 46k a year. Total compensation. Child care, commuting payback plans. Health club membership, etcetera.

I will have to ask what is paid per hour for there perks. Vacation with around 10 years is 3 weeks, 20 years is four weeks.
I will shoot with one of them most likely in the next few days.
My understanding is our Elevator, Iron workers, electricians, pipe fitters, Fire sprinkler, plumbers and others perks were much better all the way around, than what they get.
Elevators, we get 5 weeks at 5 years. Checks come twice a year, Jan and June 15th.
Nice I get 14 hours a month vaca,8 a month sick plus 24 hours every year for personal and a 8 hour floating holiday which can be used for anything.

Sounds like Ford may be caving in a little. UAW is not expanding strike with them because talks are "going well."

They are all saddled with billions in existing debt and huge pension concerns. Add in the extra billions they are into for the start of EV and battery production, and fighting with the dealer networks over EV stand up expense and brand damage from markups, and they really have no choice. UAW waited til the time was right. Legacy auto had its "anatomy" draped on the counter, the UAW has a big ol handful in one hand a a hammer in the other.

So now they will be faced with going back to the bailout well in 5-8 years.

The Detroit News reported Thursday that a spokesman for Fain wrote on a private group chat on X, formerly Twitter, that union negotiators aimed to inflict “recurring reputations damage and operational chaos” on the carmakers, and “if we can keep them wounded for months they don’t know what to do.”

Ford and GM seized on the messages as a sign of bad faith by the UAW.

“It’s now clear that the UAW leadership has always intended to cause months-long disruption, regardless of the harm it causes to its members and their communities,” GM said in a statement.

Ford spokesman Mark Truby called the messages “disappointing, to say the least, given what is at stake for our employees, the companies and this region.”

The UAW spokesman, Jonah Furman, did not confirm writing the messages, which were linked to the same picture as his X account, and called them “private messages” that “you shouldn’t have,” the newspaper reported.

Autoworkers Strike Expands Ahead Of Expected Appearances From Trump, Biden

“Today’s strike escalation by the UAW’s top leadership is unnecessary,” GM said in a statement. “The UAW leadership is manipulating the bargaining process for their own personal agendas.”

Stellantis said that it had offered to pay current full time hourly employees between $80,000-$96,000 within the next five years.

The UAW is pushing for a 36% pay bump over a four-year period for workers. Ford and GM said they could do 20%, and Stellantis put forth a 17.5% increase over four years, according to the Associated Press. Other demands by the union are a 32-hour work week with pay for 40 hours, pensions for new employees, and inflation-based pay bumps.

Career socialist activists 'are pulling the strings' on UAW strike that's cost the economy $7.7bn and claimed 6,000 jobs: 'Eat the rich' union leader - on $350k salary - is being advised by hardcore left-wingers who 'want class warfare'

  • The president of the United Auto Workers union, Shawn Fain, has ordered a walkout of more than 30,000 workers across America's 'Big 3' automakers
  • He is being advised by career socialist activists whose stated goal is to launch unprecedented strike action and 'keep [car companies] wounded for months'
  • One source questioned whether Fain is 'just a mouthpiece' for aides who have a 'greater socialist agenda for the country'

As much as we may want a robot for president, I think they would need to amend the constitution first.
