Not sure if it is still there but there once was a place just as you leave Charlotte Hall heading south on Rt 5 that sold unfinished furniture. Also maybe some of the Amish places.

Used to be a place right in front of Lowes on 235. A big red barn type of place sold unfinished amish type furniture.

The only unfinished furniture place I know of that is still open is over in Salisbury. I got my entertainment center there years ago. Lowe's has some stuff, too.

What about local places to purchase Amish-made furniture? Kwillia, didn't you get some furniture from them?
Busy Corner Chair Shop. They'll make you anything you want. Run by an Amish family. Even the women get in the shop and make stuff. Love to go there and watch them work.

There is an Amish furniture place in Hollywood, downtown Sandybottom. On the corner of 235 and Clarke's Landing Road.

Chasey, you should pm nomoney. I'm sure she can hook you up with some electrical wiring spools, wood pallets and crates.

The next time we need to get furniture for the boys, we plan to go to Lowes and finish it ourselves. It is better than that press board cheap crap.

A few years back I looked all over for unfinished furniture for a corner cabinet. I did not find one locally. There are online stores but then you pay shipping. :ohwell:

Try these;

Amish Country Furniture 301-475-7900
Everything Amish 301-932-4164
Furniture Warehouse Outlet 301-274-2722

There is an unfinished furniture place in Millersville, but that is somewhat of a haul.

I have a few pieces of the unfished furniture from Lowes. You've got a choice between some undisclosed hardwood and oak. They have catalogs over by the display and will order stuff that they don't have on display.

We have quite a few items that we bought as unfinished furniture. Only place in SoMD that sells it is Lowes. Bunch of places up around BWI. Places on 355 (Rockville Pike) in the Rockville/Gaithersburg area. Check the yellowpages, most places carry the same stuff, but have very different prices.
In-Laws have a table from Everything Amish that they had custom made. Talk about EXCELLENT quality. I think you could set off a nuke on it and it would not be scratched.
If you do go the unfinished route, be careful. Alder can be difficult to stain evenly (light/white wood commonly used). It can be splotchy sometimes. I suggest testing any stains in an out-of-sight area (i.e. bottom of chair seat, inside of drawer front, underside of tabletop). Also be aware of multiple types of wood in the same piece of furniture. If done correctly, it can turn out beautiful. If you want help, need pointers, lemme know and I will give you assistance. Nothing quite as relaxing (that's rated PG atleast) as restoring antiques or doing other types of woodworking.

I looked there, I'll have to look again. But it was a few years back so I will try again. My ex hubby had made me one but he built it into the wall. When I left I couldn't take it..
Thanks!

This is where I got my entertainment center. It's one of the only places I've found that ONLY uses solid wood. Mine is made out of maple and is very sturdy. It might be worth a drive if you can't find what you're looking for locally.

You can also try Ikea. There's one up in College Park now. I stopped in there a couple of weeks ago. I got an armoire from them several years ago, stained it, put it together, and use it as a pantry in my utility room. :yay:
