I am a toal sucker for a furry face.
She didn't want to go in to the clinic and as I was signing the paper work, I burst in to tears looking at the little paper tag my daughter had attached to her collar that said , "Raven's dog SAMMY" with our hone number and rushed her back to my car.

SHE"S MINE!!!!!

Is this a good thing? I cried all the way home thinking of how my little girl had fallen in love with her overnight. I couldn't do it.

:bawl:
Man that made me cry. I am so happy for this doggy and for you and your daughter. Dogs are a wonderful thing.

Oh, so you have a little Ms. Manners

Here is mine. She will snatch anything that you leave out. Last night, I was playing with her and she smelled like cinnamon. She got into the cinnamon rolls. That little red toy next to her, she stole that out of the kid's toy box.
Timon said he likes her and wanted her to have his picture.

Today, she ate a book.:ohwell: She started on yet another section of coffee table and managed to ascape the yard 3 times in 24 hours. I think she's leaping over the fence, this animal is a friggin' crack head.

The previous owner has shown their face in the hood, knowing full well that the dog has been here for almost a week:rolleyes: My kiddo was walking her out in the field when some heathen came running, calling, "DIXIE, ####ING DOG!" R. brought her back in the house until they leave.

Perhaps I should call her Dixie???? She's not exactly juming to attention to "Sammy"

Have you thought about getting Sammy a Kong? I'm thinking that, like Mig's Mr. T, he may need a Kong in the tougher black rubber. And like Mig, try jamming it w/ PB and goodies and freezing it for a treat when Sammy is a good dog (if that ever occurs ).

THAT'S WHAT THAT THINGY IS!!!!

I was just comparing my preggo friends to one the other day:lol: and thought about it for the dog.

I'm definatly getting one:yay:

I think Tig and Dixie(formerly Sammy but she wouldn't answer to that) would get along famously. I love me some Tig! So much that I took half her fur home with me last Saturday morning:lmao:

It is going to take a few weeks to get the kinks out of your relationship with your pup. Get different hardnesses of chew toys and let her pick which she prefers, she is probably teething and will change her preference from day to day. If you can't watch her closely, put her in an area she can't damage and reward her with praise when she chews on "her" toys. I don't think changing her name back to Dixie will make much difference to her - what she has to learn are her limits and what is acceptable. I know the crate thing can be hard but sometimes it is the best solution at first and once they learn the ropes you can put it away. Shepherds are smart and sensitive - if she has been abused it will take some time but well worth the effort. They are great dogs and loyal to the end.

Daisy NEVER got PAST the chewing stage. She had issues though.

GSD's need CONSTANT supervision and hard training as pups. If you don't get her under control now, she's not going to be a good older dog for you either. They can be awesome trusted companions but have to be trained. You women might make the comparison to men.

fttr, have you considered obedience training? At the very least pick up a bood about GSD's. It will give you some good insite to GSD behaviors and personalities, and there overwhelming short attention spans as pups. This makes it harder to train...training needs to be in shorter spans, though more frequently required.

GSD's are goal oriented. They need to have something to do, but again, need to be trained to do it. They don't do well left alone for any amount of time especially as pups.

I wish you the best with this dog. After I read up on them, I realized she probably wouldn't have been a good fit in my house.

We had NO trouble training Alex. She was the bestest dog and you would have to agree that she was very well mannered.

:yeahthat: It's like exercise for their minds. My dog has really chilled out in the last month or so, but the past few weeks (since he's started obedience school) he's gotten so much better. He was a great dog to begin with, just high-strung. Now he's a lot more relaxed and has figured out his role in the family. Plus he loves impressing us with his new tricks.

SHE came from a big puppy farm and no, I don't think she was ever abused. Unless you want to count the Bug climbing all over her when she was a baby.

Samantha gets more scared and tries to run faster. :ohwell: Last night was the first time ever, that I went from the top step of my front deck, to the concrete below (11 steps I think) in one leap. When she got to the bottom she stopped...till I crashed down next to her, which scared her again and made her try to run again...it wasn't pretty.

Miss_Daisy's ghost might have to start reporting on the progress.

DOGGIE DISASTER!!

The feathers have flown.
I can't do this.:bawl:

Dixie has now killed a chicken in front of my damn kids. It wasn't even my chicken, my :deedeedee: neighbor turned em loose in the woods thinking that they woudl wander off to chicken land but they've been hanging around and now my OTHER neightbor has feathers all over her GD yard.

:tantrum:

I am beside myself.. I can't let her back in my house she has blood and feathers all over her. I can't keep her in the eff'in yard.

The chickens are homeless too. It seems that the one neighbor refuses to take resposibility for them and the local animal warden guy was called and never came out again to fetch them.. :ohwell:
