Ok... just got an email that Vincenzo's is closing at the end of the month. Does anyone know what happened? This was a great place for dinner and we will miss it. TIA.

If I had to *guess*, I would think they are suffering as many small businesses are. "The Economy" still sucks, no matter what the government would like people to believe.

I don't know why they're closing and I've never even eaten there, but this news is pretty eerie since I was just thinking of trying the place tonight for the first time. I'm somewhat new to the area and in the process of making the rounds.

I did drive by the place last week and thought it was a pretty strange location. Even though it had the view of the water and all the boats, it didn't have very good street appeal and parking. The property and grounds in front of the place look somewhat grubby as well as the parking area next to it. The only reason I would have gone there to eat was because of the good reviews I've seen from this forum. Oh well, I guess I'll have to scratch that one off my list. Too bad.

Could it just be they are closing after the holidays for the winter? Being in the marina, business is probably off in the winter.
Went there a couple of times - last time may have been two years ago - and it wasn't very busy when we went there. What I'm saying is I don't think it's the economy, it might have something to do with the location as well, not exactly on the main drag.

Does anyone know if they closed? I'm sure hoping not.

There was a peice in the Calvert Recorder saying they are closing because of the economy. Not enough business.

My family has been in this area for just over 4 years now and have noticed that a lot of places here to do not have the "curb appeal" that we are accustomed to in many other areas of the country. We've been to Vicenzo's a few times and it is quite good. I'm sorry to hear that they will be closing. Another good spot to try from Spring till Fall (they are closed in the winter and will reopen sometime in April) is Scheibles Restaurant in Ridge (St. Mary's County). They have best crab cakes in the area in our opinion. It is definitely not the nicest looking place around but the food, people, service and all is really good. They are on the water down there.

Thanks for the tip on Scheibles. That's a bit far from me but I'll check it out next time I'm down there. I usually go to Stoneys in Broomes Island for crab cakes which is closer to me. They're great too. Yeah, too bad about Vincenzo's. Sounded like a good place. I don't mind going to dives once in while when the food's good. Sometimes the atmosphere makes it even better. Another Italian place that's opening soon is 3 Brothers in Prince Frederick. They're not what I'd call upscale but they're really good. I went to the original location in Greenbelt all the time when I lived up there.

Cheers! :buddies:

I was past Scheibles on Friday and their sign out on rt. 5 says "closed for the winter, see you in April." They do have a website but right now it has the opening date for 2009. Just don't ever be in a hurry when you go there. We've been to Stoneys in Solomons a few times, but still like Scheibles better. I totally agree with you about dives and atmosphere, sometimes they are the best.

Wouldn't it be great to have a great, more upscale Italian restaurant within an easy drive of this area without having to go all the way to Annapolis, DC, or Baltimore!

I don't know when you lived in PG county, I am originally from there (years ago), but have you ever tried the Italian Inn across from the old Capital Plaza Mall on Rt. 450? They always had some of the best pizza (and other dishes). The last time I was there was in 2001 during a visit for my high school reunion and a whole bunch of us went there. It was just as good as we all remembered. Jeez, now I really want good Italian food, guess I will have to go searching for a good recipe to try for dinner!

Have a great day!

we are getting a olive garden down here its still being built though. That isn't really upscale but its better than no italian food at all.

I went to UM from '73 to '78 and lived in PG from then til '08. Yes, I've been to the Italian Inn! What a massive pizza they had. Heavy, cheesy, sweet sauce and very filling. It was great. I always felt like I gained 10lbs after eating there. It reminds me of Ledo's a little with the sauce and good portions but Italian Inn's was more massive.

Speaking of Ledo's, the one in Lusby near me is nowhere near as generous as the ones in Adelphi and Seabrook. They're really skimpy on the toppings. Papa Johns and Mamma Lucia's has them beat by a mile. Can't wait for 3 Bros too. Did you ever go to the one in Greenbelt? Great food. :howdy:

I was told by one of the Vincenzo's regulars that Vincenzo's family lives in Montgomery County and his wife just had a baby. So he wanted to spend more time up there than having a business down here would allow. Again, just a rumor, of course. I will miss that place though. It was quite good. DiGiovannis has always disappointed me. I try it once a year to see if it has gotten any better, but it never did. Probably b/c I like southern Italian food more than their northern Italian style food. Good think I have A La Lucia in Alexandria during the week to keep me in good italian food.

Do you know when 3 Brothers is opening? It's going to be next to Jaspers, right? Hubby and I used to go to the one in Columbia, great chef salad! We're getting tired of the restaurants here and are looking forward to something new.

Yep, across from Jaspers. They built a new building from scratch and it looks like it's going to be a real nice place. As for when they'll be ready, last summer I was in the 3 Bros in Annapolis and they told me it should have opened last November but it didn't. I guess they're running late with permits and all. I did notice a Help Wanted sign go up about a week ago, so it's probably getting close.

Yeah, it is a nice building. We had heard a rumor quite a while ago that it was going to be 3 Brothers but didn't know what the heck was going on because it's taking so long. Yes, a Help Wanted sign is a promising thing.

I'm not sure that it's still going to be a 3 Brothers. I "heard" that a bank and other office suites are now going to be in the site where 3 Brothers was supposed to be. I don't know if my source is reliable, but I must admit, the construction doesn't "look" like what I thought a 3 Brothers would look like at this point?

That's what hubby said the last time we went to Jaspers - that it doesn't look like a 3 Brothers would be in there. But who knows? The last thing we need is another bank and more offices around here. They just don't stop with the new construction in this area.
