Ahhhh a little Bob tail. Now, the leg, as he grows will he have a leg much shorter than the others? And besides the deformity, is the leg going to be of some use to him? I know that even the handicapped of people and animals learn to adapt and to me, that is amazing they do!

I think im mourning the loss of his beautiful brown tail. His tail was so pretty and Im just sad about it. But I know he will be fine or better without it. My poor baby. Hey Ink, xray photos please. And give him a big smooch from his mommy and tell him I love him.

Hey Inky

Thanks for the update. Bailey...I'm jealous, but I know he's going to have a wonderful home.

I keep my daughter updated with Wally news. Here's her latest reply:

Awwwww at the cat sanctuary here, there is a cat named Tino who also has a bobcat tail. He is very playful and wonderful. We have many cats at the shelter who are sick, blind, have 3 legs, and even one who has brain damage and he walks very oddly (but he loves to play!)
I love hearing about how Wally is doing ^.^

Miss you mom!

I try my best to give the best care possible for each of my pet babys, they are all so different and I love them all the same. Mine will be able to recognize Wally meow by the time he gets here. I told Ink that I thought fat boy Charlie will be the one to teach Wally, besides hes the patriarch of the kitty world in this house. Wally will enjoy his new home, I hope. I love him to bunches and can not wait to meet him.

Xrays....

OK folks sorry this tooka bit..
Had to photograph xrays agains my monitor...and load thim and pop them into another program to add comments and then pop them back into Piscasa and upload to SmugMug and insert here....phew......

Three xrays..Wallys left and right front legs and his tail. Hopefully the notation will show up. But just look at the traumtized right leg and compare it to the healthy left leg.

Right leg...short bone is the traumatized radius bone

Healthy left leg...notice how much longer the radius is.

And his poor broken, busted up tail.

He did so well being xrayed....he did not need any gas or any drugs to knock him out!!!!

Main images are on SmugMug

Ink, does this mean the leg (fur part) will grow longer than the other legs?

:tap: I am trying to figure out if wally came from my feral that has the one leg that is longer than all the others. The feral in question has three normal legs and the one front leg has grown maybe an inch or so longer than the others (it folds over at the bottom to almost form an L)

hummm so the deformity could be genetic in nature......Interesting Dawn!!!

Hey Inkpen...on his hip shots---his right femoral head is different from the left---was that the way his leg was rotated?---that doesn't look right. If that leg was out flat and shot straight on then it makes sense and the left was rotated forward --- I'm sure the vet would have noticed it if it were a problem.

He was in a natural position, no drugs...I held his arms and the vet tech held his legs. ..and he was on his tummy for all of 4 seconds.
His hips are fine as is his pelvis.
Did not want to give his iso for a quick xray.
The less drugs the better...as he was to have his neuter and tail repair done shortly afterwards.

If I can ever get a picture of her/him, I will. She/He is very very very untrusting of people. Since Wally was so young when we found him, it just seems like it would be impossible for it to be truma (although, we never did figure out how he ended up in my flower bed).

I agree....he is so used to being handled he probably could be tied in a knot and still purr.....he will be quite the personality cat once he gets through all of this----your a good momma (and dad!)

New photos posted on SmugMug

Most are of his tail...so be warned it does look odd. He has 4 staples in it..and they come out next week.
After his fur grows back, he will look so handsome!!!
He wags his tail with determination and attitude!!!

The cage he is in I get at PetCo...great for small animals!!
there is a huge hammock and in that is Wally and his new roommate, Marley.
Marley is a recent rescue Wally helped save at the vet.
Marley has another friend, Andy who is in a smaller pet unit as he is being socialized...he is a bit hissy, but is coming aroud.
I will get their photos up later.

Wally and Marley can hang out together and play and do all that kitten stuff my adults refuse to do!!

So no super cute photos today...But Wally wants to do a photo shoot tomorrow evening.

Enjoy!!!
