My parents were so screwed up that I have vowed to never get divorced. By the way, can anyone tell me how to cut a brakeline?
Sometimes you don't have a choice and are just along for the ride.

And you could make the case that one parent cared enough to get a good lawyer and pay off the judge.
No need to pay anyone when the judge thinks the one representing your ex is a sloppy ass.

In My Opinion
Simple solution.

If you are responsible for bringing a life into the world, you are responsible for making sure that that child has what is needed to make it.

there is no excuse not to assist the mother in raising the child.
if it were me, I would work 20 hours a day if that is what it took to insure that child was raised in a good home and had the chance to go to college.

I honestly doubt that any male here would do anything different that I would. I just refuse to believe it.

Fathers get custody all the time. We have a slew of custodial fathers on here, including my dear husband.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately, in a contested custody case, the woman already has an advantage. The man has to prove that he is the better parent. The woman just has to rebut the husbands case.

Repete
In my divorce custody was contested, I won anyway, but Maine is pretty progressive with parental rights.

Maine did not have a law banning cohabitation, I did however have rights to "Inspect her home, upon reasonable notice" and so did she.

I have met all 3 dudes my ex has shacked up with since the divorce, If I could have objected and stopped it when my kid was visiting I would have because 2 of the 3 were scum and I really didn't want my kid exposed to scum. Alas I couldn't.

Alot of men don't think the same way you do....I know of alot of the people that don't care about nor do they "insure that the child(ren) are raised in a good home and have a chance in life"....I have had custody of my kids for 19 months without support from their "dad" because it wasn't court ordered and he feels that he just doesn't have to pay!

:yeahthat: My X got custody because she got fired from her job after we got married. Since she was unemployed at the time of the breakup, the court took the view that it was our intention that she was supposed to stay home with the kid, so she got custody.
