As long as the employer is free to fire people who can't perform their job or causes impacts to the business. And by impacts I mean like if no one want's to eat at your restaurant because your meth head waiters mouth smells so bad people get nauseous every time he approaches the table.
how did you stretch a weed user into a meth head?

I didn't. I was responding to GURPS (hence the quote) that what people do in their own time is their own business. His comment was not limited to weed, so I didn't limit my response to weed.

I agree that weed use at home isn't terribly likely to cause an issue at the persons place of employment, but it's also not impossible. It's now pretty well established that prolonged pot use is linked with increased incidence of schizophrenia and psychotic episodes. If that presented at work it could very well cause issues.

I've seen that happen with a couple people of late, never happened that I know of back in the day. The weed nowadays is way stronger and has definitely contributed, IMO, to their schizophrenia and psychotic episodes.
