What do? Where go?

I found a girl. We've been friends for a while. We're in our early 20s. Finishing up college. She's from right above Baltimore. I call her a city girl. I'm from the Northern bit of St. Mary's County. I'm going to have her come down for a bit.

She's seen the county before. Not much to do. I survive off of the Internet and such.

We need things to do, places to go, for cheap or free.

For example, Gilbert Run Park is pretty sweet. Stuff like that. Bert's used to be the thing all newcomers had to see, but now it's just a place by the road that holds old forgotten memories.

I don't explore as much as I should, so I was hoping you guys had some ideas, or just some lesser-known local places to visit. Maybe an awesome little food place. Or an awesome little store place. Or a little place with an awesome view. If there's a place you've always wanted to take your group of friends to see, because only you and a few others know of this place's awesomeness, let me know, and maybe I'll benefit from your divine knowledge.

If you're looking for some culture, take her to the ABC Lounge.

Take a drive to Point Lookout, and be sure to travel Rt 5 - don't want to scare the poor girl with Rt 235

Historic St Marys City has a sweet gift shop, closes after the holidays until March.

Walk around the college, buy a sandwich from Quiznos and eat out on the balcony.

Leonardtown is a cool place to explore.
The Moll Dyer plack at the old courthouse is pretty cool. You can go check out the town wharf. The Car dealer has some well restored old cars in the showroom. The both the pet store and the comic book strore are mini zoos, one with animals and one with nerds. Get some icecream or a full meal.

Holy crap geocaching. That stuff sounds awesome. It's like everybody everywhere got together and decided to hide stuff in interesting places just for people who want to go places with no money and time to kill. That's... actually totally worth it. Gonna try that.

Also, thanks for all the feedback guys.

Places for free & exploring the true of Southern MD ... try geocaching.

I had heard of this but never really looked into what it was. There are lots of spots right here in St Marys County. Looks like fun!

Don't limit yourself to St. Marys. Plenty of restaurants at Port Tobacco, Solomons, Piney Point, Benedict. Take her to Clarks Landing, Rivers Edge, Stoneys in Broome Island, Scheibles/Courtneys in Ridge, Capt. Billys in Popes Creek, Anne Marie Gardens, Bowles Farm, Fitzies on Breton Bay. Tons of neat places to go.

Google the geocaching sites, you can use a hand held GPS to find all kinds of neat stuff people have hidden with the coordinates on the website....Def gets you out if you love the outdoors!

I am not much older than you and have done the same thing in the past (dating a Baltimore gal) Point lookout is always good if the weather is good.

Look at this site Southern Maryland Trails for ideas.
(lot of good ideas on/in here!)

Also look up the Southern Maryland Wine Trail or just head over to Running Hare on Saturday they have live music from 12-4 and if you PM me I can forward an email coupon for free tastings that comes with their glass and 10% off purchases. Anne Marie Gardens is nice this time of year (bring a coat) Just a thought, you can hit up the vineyard and head over to the Gardens afterwards (at dark) and then hit Solomons for dinner. Good views to be had at all places especially if the night is clear!

I bowl overhand
Point Lookout, Buzzy's store for a drink then Courtney's for lunch or dinner.

St James Pub, or the Deli to meet the locals...

Ridge Hardware.

There's not a lot of Southern MD left..

Airdale Rd show her what an oyster farm looks like. Stop at Drury's Marinara and buy a coke.. maybe take an afternoon ride out on the creek and Bay.

Or the Brass Rail.

Impress a girl by taking her out to bars?! How exciting :ohwell: Not everyone drinks or wants to drink. A bar is a bar no matter were you go.

I agree with alot of the other postings though about Point Lookout, St. Mary's City, or walk around Solomon's Island. If you are willing to drive to almost Waldorf, The Samuel Mudd House is an interesting local historical place.
