what do you think

HYPOTHETICALLY, let's say you attend a community college with a small campus and you discover there is a registered "violent sex offender" (basically includes violent rape or attempted violent rape) attending.

After all of the chat about what VaTech should and should not have done about the crazy shooter guy, what do you think? Should the college take any measures to monitor this dude or let students know about him?

FYI: HYPOTHETICALLY, the president of such college is actively seeking info on this. But what do YOU think.

I think is picture should be plastered up everywhere.
That's a valid emotional response, however, this is America. The dude is a registered offender which means he has the right to attend an adult college and further his education. As much as we may not like it, he most likely has a right to be there.

And it will be easy to spot him as he should be a hell of a lot older than most of the students.

There are quite a few pretty young looking offenders.

I am so very blessed
Hmmmmm. Aren't registered sex offenders required to keep their distance from children under the age of 18? If so, his attendance there might pose a problem. There could be students under 18 there......kids who leave high school early to take a class or two at college, or kids who simply excel in regular school that puts them in an advanced track where they could attend college and still be under 18.

He is only 29. Not much older. Sure he has a right to go to college because he isn't in jail (for whatever reason), nobody is arguing that.

Violent rape should carry a hefty sentence.
I know a guy who slept with a 12 year old girl a few times. He was 19 at the time. He got arrested and was charged with the crime. He was given 18 months work release of which he only had to serve 13 months.

Are you one of those people that think sex offenders are all big scary old men who smell funny and are unshaven? They look just like anybody else and can certainly be young.

Regardless of whether it's a community college, tech college, or university, big or small, school administrations should take measures to better inform students and staff of registered offenders who may be lurking on campus. Since they are registered, this information is public domain and should by all means be disseminated as a means to help prevent situations from occurring. While it may be true that if a repeat offender has his/her mind set on committing a heinous act there is little to stop him/her, information given beforehand could potentially help bystanders be more aware of their surroundings.

He has the right to attend the college, but the people also have the right to know what kind of monster he is.

You just love attacking my "knee jerk" responses don't you

There will be younger children on campus for Kids College this summer.
