My 8 year old says that his favorite part of Thanksgiving is the ham. We never have ham on Thanksgiving, so I have no idea what he's talking about. :lmao:

We usually spend Thanksgiving with my mom and (step)dad. She always does very traditional stuff, but we've both decided to shake things up a little this year. The November issue of Cooking Light has some tasty looking recipes. My dad's a creature of habit, so we'll see how it goes.

We're keeping it simple and basic:

Roast turkey
Smoked turkey breast
stuffed ham
green bean casserole
stuffing
fried corn
mashed taters
cranberry-orange relish
relish tray
rolls & butter
apple and pumpkin pies

Of course, by then I'll think of a zillion other things to make and we'll have food overload

I'm having Isaac's at Holiday Inn in Solomon's. Taking family there, that way I get to enjoy and the dishes are cleared and cleaned by their staff. Gone there past three years, it is awesome with all the trimmings.

We are having
Roasted Turkey with stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce, Mashed Potatoes, Stuffed Ham, Candied Sweet Potatoes, ColeSlaw, Kale, Veggie tray, Rolls, Pumpkin Pies and other desserts (that haven't been identified yet..:) )

I wouldn't mind having roasted brussel sprouts and or the green/bean casserole also, but the menu is pretty loaded already...

Turkey, stuffing, mashed taters, corn, peas, fried mushrooms, rolls, sweet potatoes covered in marshmallows, cranberry sauce, watergate salad.

Then pie.

MY thanksgiving dinner plate will probably have about 4 oz turkey - no skin - 1/2 cup mashed potatoes & stuffing, 1/2 cup corn, no gravy. Unsweetened ice tea.
:bawl:

And no pie.

I don't so much care about the pie as I do the savory junk. And how am I supposed to watch football with anything less than 1 lb. of skin-covered turkey on my plate?

I picked the worst time ever to be placed on a strict low-carb, low sodium, insulin dependent diet. On top of everything else - as if this isn't bad enough - the McRib came back the same week I went into the hospital. How's that for a cruel cosmic joke.

2011 has got to be better than this.

Sounds great actually... other than no leftovers. My aunt and her family usually go to Casey Jones in La Plata for both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. They love doing that. I would like to do that one year but with all the kids it would kill us! I think it is around $45 or so per person.

I would not be allowed in my sister's home if I didn't bring my crock of spinach casserole (note: the recipe is for a small crock)

She pretty much eats the whole thing and gives people the hairy eyeball if they touch it.

2 boxes of frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry

1 cup cottage cheese

2 eggs

2 cloves of garlic finely minced

1/2 cup Parmesan cheese

1 stick of butter

8 oz of sharp cheddar

Beat the eggs, add the garlic, spinach, Parmesan and cottage cheese. Salt and pepper to taste.

Cut the butter into tiny cubes, along with the cheddar. Gently fold in.

Dump in the crock, and cook on low for 8 hours.

Mmmm. Thanksgiving. Enjoy!

Sister has an 8000 square foot home and a teeny tiny oven. Tons of counter space and no cooking place...go figure... She does not cook. I need to take a plug in.

You could cook it at home and the GodPot would keep it hot for a really long time.
