what song are you listening to?

Wharf Rat got me to thinking about some earlier songs I haven't listened to in a while. This is Warren "Baby" Dodds, who was quite a percussian innovator in his time. This is probably one of the longest of the few recordings there are of Dodds.

This is another relatively unknown, though probably more well-known than Dodds, Zutty Singleton;

I know I've posted some of the last few musicians early on in this thread, or in Off the Beaten Path, or similar, but thanks to Wharf Rat, I'm suddenly revisiting them. This one is King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band. You can really hear the New Orleans jazz influence in this one, even though Oliver left New Orleans relatively early in his career, and moved to Chicago. I'm thinking Baby Dodds older brother Johnny (need to check on that), was among the many who played in Oliver's band.

I really dig the whole Playing for Change thing. This is a kick-ass version of "Gimme Shelter," which most of us remember from the Rolling Stones.

I saw Washboard Chaz down in the Quarter when I was there last April.:yay: I remembered seeing him in another PFC video.

My latest issue of EDN has a story titled "Bach for Engineers".

Bach for Engineers | EDN

The author puts together a playlist of pieces he thinks any engineer or anyone with an analytical mind would appreciate. The cell phone advertisement using Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is crazy.

Railroad

Routinely Derailed
When the Levee Breaks

My first ever favorite song. I played it to death. Still do on occasion.

Like now. :lmao:

Because of this tune I asked for a harmonica for Christmas, got one, taught myself to play it, and I still play today. Have played in a number of bands. All because of one song.

I know i am old, going old school on you young ones. Trust me sounds as good now as it did in the dark ages.

I periodically go back through this thread to revisit videos I like. This time, I landed on one that Kwillia posted in Feb 2012.
