"We Miss You John Denver" Features rare song "No One" - YouTube

Dang! I learned something new tonight! I have a pretty good working knowledge of a lot of different genres and groups; better than most, not as good as some, but I did not know that John Denver sang with the Mitchell Trio. I've listened to American, British, and Australian folk music ever since I was a kid (more than 50 years now), but it's one of my "weaker" genres. I was just never that "up" on the who's who of folk.

Thanks for posting. Good stuff.

My favorite version of this classic "Someday Soon" by Suzy Bogguss. The one by Judy Collins is the first one I remember, and is a good one as well.

Speaking of folk music and Judy Collins, here's one I've never seen, with Judy singing a duet with Joan Baez and Joan's "Diamonds and Rust." The sound is so-so, but not bad, considering. They hint at a recording in the beginning, but I'm not sure what album this is from. I'll have to google Newport Folk Fest 09, I guess.

And speaking of folk music and Joan Baez, whom I've had a mad crush on since the '60s, when I was much too young for her, this is her and her sister, the late Mimi Baez-Farina. If you're looking for inspiration, google Mimi Farina some time. Don't stop at the Wiki link, though; keep going. She was an amazing woman, as famous in some circles as her more publicly well-known sister.

Another rare video of Joan Baez and her sister Mimi (second song) recorded at Sing Sing prison. There are only a few recordings on youtube that I'm aware of that features both Joan and Mimi, and only a couple of them show images of Mimi; one recording (below) and one that a fan put together using images of Mimi (second video below).

"Who's the best guitar player in the world?" Eddie Van Halen, I don't know? Go ask Roy Buchanan.

I met Steve back in the late 80's when he toured with a band named Zero. He just gets better and better.

"Who's the best guitar player in the world?" Eddie Van Halen, I don't know? Go ask Roy Buchanan.

Is that even possible to answer? If it is Buchanan, I'd have never fell in love with the electric guitar and I consider Danny Gatton well beyond Roy in that style of Tele-pickin' clean playing.

Tommy Emmanuel (thanks Psy) is stunning, just a breath taking, natural player.

There are any number of amazingly proficient players who are boring as all hell.

Malmsteen. Batio.

There are others who are so silky smooth they truly make it look effortless and their taste is impeccable.

Chet Atkins

Al DiMeola

Lots of people, including great guitar players, think it's Clapton who I've never thought much of.

Should it be by genre? Era? Based solely on what great guitar players think? That would make the most sense.

Where to even start?
