What the hell is going on in LaPlata??

Even if this 'blog' causes skepticism, there is plenty going on in the world regarding Islamist extremist jihad that is frightening. There is every reason to be guarded about the information out there, and there is no room for complacency. As of now, I think our own government is our biggest enemy.

Sensationalism and lies don't help

I don't get your reference 'see above', but that is ok. There is nothing wrong with being vigilant. As far as sensationalism, we see that every day in the news. It is one sided for the most part. Americans need to think for themselves. Seems to be that individual thought is becoming extinct. That's all.

Just wondering if you have any proof that this incident actually happened?

The pictures of the assignment provide no indication that it is from La Plata HS...doesn't even provide any indication it is from the kid in question...there are no quotes, no even a no comment attributed to anyone from the school or the school administration...

Not one shred of actual evidence is presented...yet you believe this story?

His FB page indicates that he contacted the Misguided Children site. So I'd be inclined to think it is La Plata and there is a problem. FB page also names the VP and that there is a restraining order against him because he'd stir up a fuss about this.

Although it very well may be the case, I'm finding it hard to believe that Judaism and Christianity are not also covered at some point in this girl's class. After all, world religions are part of world history. Both of my daughters learned about Judaism, Christianity, AND Islam in their History courses. After looking at the pictures of the girl's homework, some parts do seem to be misleading (to Western eyes and experience) and deserve addressing; however, I wonder why Mr. Wood's daughter was hiding the homework from him. I could be way off base, but I have a feeling Mr. Wood has a bit of an anger problem and most likely did not approach the situation with his daughter or the school in the best manner; hence, the restraining order. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Why don't you give miss Morris a note and get her side of the story. smmorris@ccboe.com

When I was a kid, I was told no religion in school. They told Ms. Lindsey no more reading the bible during breaks. So, isn't this also religion in school? Forget about the parent and the Islam aspect of this story. Just the fact that any religion is being taught in a public school is supposed to be "verboten".

Exactly. I think this story has been blown waaaaay out of left field.

It's my understanding that as long as it's taught as history it's ok, although it wouldn't be hard to slip in some religious doctrines like we saw in those LaPlata papers. It can be a fine line. J's teacher read the first few chapters of Genesis to the class under the guise of history.

IMHO, no religion in public school should mean just that - no religion in public school. If you start teaching any religion under the guise of history, then any religion should be allowed into the schools.

So, again, IMHO, since LaPlata is teaching Islam, all local religions should be allowed into that school and taught. Or La Plata should stop teaching religion. They are violating the law. I'd sue. Actually, I want to sue right now, and I have no kids in that school. It's the principle of the matter. Any lawyers on the board who can tell me if I can sue without kids in that school?

You want your kids to learn religion - you send them to a private religious school, teach them your religion at home, and send them to attend church, mosque, temple, whatever.

If you are a teacher and want to teach religion, then go to work at a private religious school or teach att he church, mosque, temple, whatever. But by law, you aren't supposed to be teaching ANY religion at a public school.

I totally get what you're saying and agree for the most part because frankly I don't want anyone teaching my kids about religion except me, I don't trust anyone else. However, how does one teach world history without touching at least a little bit on the world's religions, especially Judaism, Christianity, and Islam? They played a huge role in history. If they were omitted, then one isn't getting accurate history (not to say it's accurate anyway but you know what I mean).

I would tend to believe this too. So far, we've heard one side of the story. I find it hard to believe that a school would get a peace order against a parent because that parent complained about his kid's homework. I'm guessing there's more to this than what's been made public. I wouldn't be surprised if this girl's dad has a history that's been left out of the details of this story.
