I would think it matters if he had to fight in a war and watch his commrades be blown to bits by "peaceful" folks who started this nonsense on the basis of religious beliefs his daughter is now being forced to "tolerate". Why SHOULDN"T it matter?
Then it would be a great teaching opportunity for him and his kids to discuss religious extremism and his personal experience with it.
There appears to have been multiple opportunities for the concerned parent to better this situation but instead he is choosing to react emotionally. The only lesson I see here is a parent teaching his kids to hate the same people he hates for his reasons instead of teaching them to explore and apply some critical thinking.
