I'm in the market for a practical ride.

So, what would you buy, and why?

Subaru Outback
on my second, only car I've ever done that with.

AWD is fantastic, makes driving in the snow/rain boring
(go to Maine and you'll see them like you see pickup trucks here)
large cargo area plus standard roof rack
Doesn't handle like a truck
You don't need a ladder to wash the roof

Nope, no remote start. On some vehicles it voids the manufacturer's warranty, unless it comes standard.

As it would on the Jeep, unless you had the dealership add the Mopar unit, which is designed to integrate with the factory antitheft system. It should be available as an option, though. Ah, just checked, it is, but not on the base, you have to get the Laredo, and add the Security & Convenience option package.

The intricacies of what you can get with what is a PITA, and the "option group" thing drives me nuts. Maybe I don't want the damn sunroof, but I cant have the "drivers confidence package" without it.

But two things I am sure our next car will have is remote start and a memory function for the seats/mirrors. Sort of torn on factory nav, I think very few can match goggle nav for the money. Optimum would be to let my phone send the nav video to the big screen in the vehicle.

I don't particularly want a sunroof, either. It's just something that has the potential to be troublesome (leak).

Mine has leaked when I left it open.

In all seriousness, I've never had a vehicle with a bad/leaking sunroof and I've gone through plenty of vehicles. I only have a few requirements -- sunroof, heated leather seats and blue tooth. My Audi had a heated steering wheel and I really miss it but it's not a deciding factor in my purchase for a car.

Well, that's good to know.

Mine has been leak free since new. Wouldn't be a deal killer if I couldn't have one. I think makers have gotten better at keeping drain systems clog free, which was the real cause of like %99 of all factory sunroof leaks.

I didnt mention bluetooth, but in my opinion, not getting that is like not getting seatbelts, unless of course you plan on adding a module like I put in the wife's 1999 truck.

I am with you on not buying a Ford product. We recently were jerked around by Leonardtown Ford (used). We still don't have answers to our questions on the warrantee So....at this point we are very down on Fords and especially down on Leonardtown Ford.

Don't be down on the product because the dealer gave you the run around. Just get it serviced somewhere else.

Well, while the federal law prohibits any negative action from being taken against your warranty based on where you have service performed, actually fighting that will most likely cost you more than just getting the service done.

Not to mention, some service on modern vehicles can be hard to get done without special diagnostic tools a lot of independents might not have. Dont get me wrong, you can still get it done elsewhere, or even do it yourself like I do, but a lot of folks are not willing to play on that level.

Looks like I'm going to have to try on the Jeep for size. It seems to have everything in the standard package, that I have to upgrade to get in the Santa Fe...unless I'm reading it wrong. These things are so confusing. Anyway, gonna' try a JEEP on for size

My dream SUV is the Jeep Grand Cherokee. I did really like my Santa Fe and it was much less pricey than the Jeep Grand Cherokee. I would not recommend a 4 door Jeep Wrangler for hauling babies. They are built for fun, not comfort.

No, I don't want a GP jeep . I want an SUV jeep. I don't think I need to pay the price of a Grand Cherokee to get what I'm looking for, so I'm looking at the Jeep Cherokee Limited. 28 and change.

Once test drove a Lexus with seat memory.
Driving down 235 and decided to find out why there were several buttons on the door. Pushed one and it was like that scene in Christine where the seat jacks up and crushes the guy. :yikes:
Apparently it was set for a 3 ft tall woman
