What's the best way to stop your neighbor's barking dog?

Not sure what the regulations are, when the neighbor behind us had the rottie that they constantly left tied up in the back yard rather they were home or not, they would sometimes leave for 2 or 3 days at a time. We called animal control a couple of times because the poor thing would bark and bark and bark day and night. It was constantly jumping up and trying to escape from its collar. I never saw animal control until the dog actually got loose and was wandering the streets. I was worried because the neighbors weren't home... again...I called A/C and they did come down at that time and found the dog, took him to the shelter and left a note for the owners who didn't come home until the following evening. They were able to get the rottie back and then proceeded to come to my door and call me a racist. I told her I was not a racist, but, I was an animal lover. Having just lost my dog after 18 years, it really broke my heart to see this poor rottie treated this way. My sister and BIL used to breed rotties and I'm especially sentimental when it comes to these dogs. Anyway, sorry to ramble, but, I don't know what the regulations are pertaining to "nuisance" dogs. Should be "nuisance owners".

I remember you talking about that experience. I understand why some people just go take the critter away and find it a home but we can't just steal people's critters. All they do is replace the critter and do it all over again. We need to find some way to get people to at least give minimal care to their pets. Some men don't feel manly enough unless they have a big dog in their yard (I know of men who think like that). That may have been the case there?

Dogs are pack animals. They need the closeness of their pack, and when they are tied to a chain, and alone, they cry. We are their packs in the domestication scene. I couldn't imagine being tied to a chain day in, and day out. What did they do to deserve that? It's not the dog, it's the owner.

Like. Never can understand why people want dogs and them leave them chained up outside everyday. I know not everybody agrees with bringing a dog into the house, but there has to be some social interaction with the poor thing. Its not a yard ornament, its a living, breathing, feeling creature.

Awesome link and will be of great help for those who are suffering with such situation. People must note and call on these numbers if the situation gets out of control.

I'm not sure which is worse; people who insist on having dogs they can't care for or neighbors who think it is ok to drug and/or shoot dogs other people can't care for.

We decided to take OUT the clause in our adoption contract which sates we can remove the adopted pet if the pet is not being properly cared for. Why? Because it was pointed out that our definition of proper care may differ from what Animal Control feels is proper care. So, if the critter isn't being properly cared for in our opinion, a visit from Animal Control would result in enforcement or removal of the pet. That way the same standard of care is being applied to everyone equally.

There is legislation being introduced in MD by animal advocates that will require that pets be provided with indoor accommodations when the temperature drops below a certain threshold (forgot that number). Of course for some dogs that would only be an unheated garage, which hopefully is better than being outside.

I'll take an unheated garage over being out doors. Or in the pound. Hopefully, someone will walk me and play with me enough so I don't bark by brain out. :buddies:

This. x5

I'd say, if a dog is barking during the night, it's time to ring up the neighbors. And start lodging complaints. If a dog is left alone all night to bark, they need a new owner.

I have a rather large lot and my dogs bark at the edge of it; I can't hear them in the house, but the neighbors can and have actually texted me about it, politely, I said I was sorry, we can't hear them barking from the house. I feel bad, they are barking at their cat who comes wandering down our driveway, a new cat mind you. Don't know what to tell them??
