When are groceries supposed to get prohibitively expensive?

Just wait until summer. ICE is arresting and deporting migrant workers. Soon there won't be anyone to pick all the produce we are supposedly going to start growing now that we aren't importing it from other countries.

AND there won't be anyone to clean the toilets! We'll just be sitting around with no veggies and dirty toilets. This time next month we'll be BEGGING for Mexicans to come back. "Please, Juanita! Please come back and clean my toilet! Bring Manuel with you so he can pick the lettuce for my salad!"

I have been assured by the media that I'll be starving to death here shortly because of the "Trump tariffs". Is there a timeline on this? So far my grocery prices have gone down. Eggs, which seems to be the holy grail, are about $2 a carton less than last year. Gas is under $3/gal.

Also, when are we supposed to all die of climate change? Is it still in a couple of years like AOC said or has that been revised?

I want to be prepared.
That pesky free market making goods and services available at competitive prices is winning again. As markets open up, letting America goods in, other countries will benefit too.

No imports unless they are taxed highly, no one to pick what crops we do have.

Let’s circle back to this thread in 4 months.
No crap… and boy oh boy could those Tres de agua and MS 13 characters sure could pick some strawberries.

I doubt they would deign to enter your RV but these restaurants that are being raided are not where the people who clean toilets are working.

The restaurant industry and the food supply chain as well as construction will all be the hardest hit since Americans aren't willing to do those jobs.

If they do convince American's to take these jobs the wages will be raised and then the cost of goods. It's pretty easy to see whats coming.

My god you are fu*k*n stupid, with the trend now of kids questioning the value of college and student loans more and more of them will take to the trades and food service. I get questions at least a couple times a week from parents or kids wanting to know how I got into the electrical trade and if I can help them get started in the right direction, or some of the other trades steamfitting, plumbing, HVAC, bricklaying, carpentry etc.

Anyone with students in high school in St. Mary's should check out the opportunities offered at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center. Lots of training available in trades as well as computer work are offered as part of the high school curriculum.

I interesting data point, last week I was not in Maryland, paid $3 for a dozen eggs. In Walmart in California MD the cheapest dozen of eggs was almost $6.

Why is MD lagging on egg prices?

Not growing up in MD were trades looked down upon here?

Most of my friends from outside work are tradesmen such as electricians, elevator repair, construction, even a cement truck operator, they all have good lives. I'm the oddball of the group.

The tech center has been there for years. I think the difference is many newcomers came here for base related jobs and as their kids grew, they were steered that way.

Oh good, so I'm not crazy. In that other egg thread where you all were talking about how much you're paying for a dozen eggs I made a specific point to note what a Walmart brand dozen costs here and it was significantly cheaper than what you all were paying.

My grocery bill in general has gone down about $25/week in the last couple months.

Growing up in NY, trade school was where you went if you couldn't make it academically, ie a dummy.

Most of the kids I went to high school with entered a trade or went into the military on graduation. They appear to be doing just as well as the kids who went to college.

College being what you MUST do started around the time my kids were growing up (in MD). I don't remember it being a huge deal when I was a kid, depending on what you wanted to do as a career. If you wanted to be a doctor or a lawyer or something that required a degree, sure, but it didn't require a degree to be a, say, hotel manager or work for the Dept Revenue. You started as a desk person and worked your way up, OJT. Now they want you to have a degree for even entry level stuff.
