When the levees broke.......

Anyone catch this last night?? I missed it, I heard it was very good. I am curious to see how Spike Lee spins it, I will have to catch the second half tonight........http://www.hbo.com/

From what I heard...He calls the governments actions "criminal", and he doesnt show much racial diversity. Basically following in Kanye's footsteps by trying to say the government and George Bush hate black people, without actually saying it.

It wouldnt suprise me I guess, I just wish someone would come out with something a little more objective, instead of trying to push an agenda.

I wish more attention would be given to other cities that were totally devistated and are in worse shape than N.O. such as Biloxi...:ohwell:

Thats Spike Lee for you. He wanted it to look like the black community was the only ones devestated and how the government didnt care about them. Too bad the Gulf Coast got ruined, sending people of all races into homelessness and despair. But like I said before, everyones got an agenda and it is sad to see someone trying to exploit others plight just to push their own views.

I will have to see it for myself.........the reports on last's nights show I got were that all races were interviewed, and the movie seemed to be not racially motivated. But again, I will have to watch it to believe it.

Like I said, it only what I heard. All races were interviewed, but the majority were non-white.

Someone told me a few months ago, you don't hear about Miss.'s damage much because of Trent Lott and he wants it to appear as though he has his state undercontrol or that he's been pulling all the strings so they recovered much quicker than the rest of the areas impacted or something or other  Basically that Trent is a great guy :blahblah:

The reason you don't hear a word about Biloxi is because.....it's predominantly white. 76%, to be exact. Compared to New Orleans, which is almost 70% black.

What good would it do reporters to put a bunch of white people on TV, crying about their lost homes? Is Justin Timberlake going to do a press conference and say that George Bush doesn't care about white people? Is the mayor of Biloxi going to pledge to rebuild Biloxi into a vanilla city? Are liberals going to brave the destruction to prove they "care" about white people?

That's shocking to me. If you get one block inland from the casinos in Biloxi, it is all Vietnamese in absolutely retched housing. I guess the white majority stays away from that part of town. Either way, the MSM wants to paint racism in this country as a purely black/white issue, with a smidgen of immigration thrown in.

What really threw me for a loop was in the beginning they kept calling all these people "refugees" - everytime I heard that I kept thinking "THIS cannot be the politically correct term" :ohwell: Later it was changed to "evacuees."

Since I'm a compulsive channel-flicker, I passed it several times. I only saw interviews with blacks. Might have been other races too, but I passed it a bunch and never saw any other races.

The MSM either:
A) Doesn't care about Vietnamese
B) Didn't realize they were there and missed an opportunity

My vote would be A because there isn't a large Vietnamese political action group in this country. No NAAVP. Asian isn't a color in the Rainbow Coalition. No Hung Do Sharpton running his mouth.

Sucks to be them, huh?

I didn't watch that particular one but I did watch several other programs on the aftermath of Katrina. My roommate and boyfriend are down in New Orleans right now preparing for their move there and they say even after a year, there is still an awful lot of cleanup to do and some places haven't even been touched. The destruction of that area is almost unbearable to see.

I saw an article yesterday about thieves stealing large construction equipment from a site in Ward 9, which is still mostly unhabited and unhabitable, where there were constructing a MONUMENT for $100k. Excuse me, but clean up the place and rebuild houses before you even THINK of building monuments.

Im On 1.
I am not surprised by the responses...

I think a lot of people have a problem with facing the facts and the truth about Katrina. Spike Lee gave you what the media and the gov't refused to show you (similiar to Michael Moore's documentaries).

As said in the program - RACE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. It was about politics, social status and money. When I learned that the levees were bombed back in 1925 to save the French Quarters that gave me even more of a reason to beleive the gov't would do it now days. Back in 1925 the 9th ward & St. Bernards Parish was full of white folk - yet it was still blown up. They didnt care if you were white & poor then and I frankly dont think they cared if you were black and poor now - they were doing what they had to do for money.

You would've had to watch the whole thing to really understand and sympathize with ALL who were affected by Hurricane Katrina...its annoying when people dismiss the truth based on the messenger alone (Spike Lee) ...

The reason they didnt cover alot of different other places was because the majority of those people GOT OUT. There weren't people on top of houses waving for 3 days in the blazing heat with no food or water waiting for people to rescue them! People in Biloxi had the money to leave - thats why when you went and looked at the damage you couldn't hardly find anyone on the street to talk to compared to what you saw in N.O.

What is even more of a disgrace is that after the Tsunami hit the U.S. was over there in 2 days with medical and food supplies...but we have a Hurricane and people had to wait 4 & 5 days without food!!! This is the type of America we live in people that your gov't comes to the aid to a foreign country first and then his people last. And you wonder why people hate America...

just my dollars worth. :yay:

Exactly how much disaster is our government supposed to cover? How may people are we supposed to help? There was a time when people recovered from disaster on their own. Why does everyone think the government is supposed to bail them out of natural disasters?

Another question: What are these people doing for themselves? What have/are the neighboring communities doing for themselves? How much government assistance are they asking for?

South Florida was flattened by Andrew. Why wasn't this an issue then?
