Ask the hero of the city, the mayor, Mr. Nagin why he left school busses to be flooded and why he left people to suffer when he had the means to evacuate all of them prior to Katrina hitting?

i've questioned that too....and then asked: who was he gonna get to drive the buses?

he hollered afterwards to get Greyhound down there.....

He TOO WAS RESPONSIBLE.

Question:

How do you evacuate a place when you have no car, no savings and no friends and family out of town?

in all seriousness alot of people say the same thing you do but can never answer this question.
Cheese and Rice. Those people live in a damn flood zone, knowing full well the implications of severe storms, and they did nothing to protect themselves or their assets? Regardless of their limited budget or lack of transportation, etc., they should have had at least a contingency plan of some sort on the back burner to use in an emergency.

There was adequate warning from weather-watchers to know the storm would be massive. If I had no personal transportation, I would have dug up coins from the sofa cushions to get bus money to get out of town.

At that time, anyone with the ability.

Anybody who can operate a bus could have easily driven a bus full of people out of town. Instead, the people lingered, and the busses flooded with water. Opportunity knocked, people ignored the obvious.

If the option is to sit on the steps of an empty bus and watch the water rise.......

you get the point.

You hop on the bus with a set of keys and you get out of town, all in an effort to save your life.

Why is that so difficult to understand?

well the people weren't able to make that choice in regards to the buses...their mayor had to for them which he didnt which cost a lot of people their lives.

You're right. It's much better to sit there and drown. Can't have any unauthorized driver's behind the wheel, now can we?

Why not? If they can start it, get it in gear and move it down a road why the heck wouldn't you use them?

Without someone from the government to come get them, carry them and their belongings to the bus and drive them away? Are you mad??? :jameo:

As if they can help the fact of how the city is built!!! Goodness...

according to all of you, we should've expected for the youngest/oldest, poverity stricken individual to get up off their ass and leave.

Ken can you answer my question I posed to the other two?

How do you evacuate when you have nothing and know no one?

Dont forget to add.......you shot at people who are trying to save you.
And let's not neglect to add......you incite crowds to riot and join on in the "poor me" mentality, screaming at the media of the unjustice done to you by the government.

Obviously you don't. You make your way to the Wal-Mart and pick up a new TV instead. :coffee:

that was sad to see....in a time of :jameo: people arent thinking straight and just acting on impulse.

Okay so what about the ones that did walk/drive miles to leave and were turned back by the Military because those from the other town didn't want them there.

Sure, I'll answer it. How do they get around on any other day, I suspect that those means were available for some time before being halted. After that it was the duty of the city to get those with no means available to safety.

Hell, if I'm not mistaken, the city and state even had disaster plans where the city was to take control of all transportation, busses, taxi services, air, and sea. Then they were to have used city employees to facilitate the evacuation. One problem, it doesn't work if you don't place it into operation.

The entire population of New Orleans freaked out in panic and didn't do what they were supposed to do. The state of Louisiana didn't do much better in what they were supposed to be doing. Now we, the rest of the US of A, are expected to pick up the pieces for them and do for them beyond the $100 billion plus that has been ear-marked for their rebuilding.

Maybe I would be a little more compassionate if I saw more of them doing for themselves first and a little less of the "what else are you going to do for me".
