You in turn missed my point. It's not being "hyperbolic" at all. My parents, like many elderly, are effectively confined to their homes (yes, just like all of us at the moment). In the case of nursing homes, EVERY single resident in every single nursing home across Maryland at least is locked in their small
and often shared rooms - not because they're infected, but because they're at risk. It's the only thing keeping them alive.
Go too loose on the travel and social restrictions, and more people WILL be infected. When more infected people are out-and-about, those at-risk people WILL be effectively locked up, because if they get infected they'll probably (70-80% certainty) die. They simply won't be able to risk going out.
I'm not advocating locking everyone up. I'm pointing out that keeping those at-risk people safe involves some inconvenience for the rest of us.
