Why is the bridge still open?!

My pregnant daughter came across the Solomon's bridge earlier on her way home from work and the truck in front of her almost blew off!!! The truck hit the wall and the top was hanging over until it hit one of the new safety poles and blew back the other way. The evidence and damage is there, and I can not believe they have not closed that bridge today!!! Isn't there a wind limit for bridges in Maryland?

I came across the bridge and there was no problem. The bridge is not unsafe with these winds, stupid drivers are. Why should they close the bridge over a little wind?

I guess you were lucky enough to come across at a good time. In Florida they close bridges if there are winds in excess of 25 mph. Anyway, I just heard that there was apparently another problem with a truck and it is currently closed to clean up whatever it spilled.

I've been driving that bridge for 16 years, and today just was not very bad. I came through at 4:30, and the winds were as strong as at any other time today. The difference is that people were not driving stupid when I came over.

What would be bad is closing the bridge and causing thousands of people to have to detour around to the next bridge, which would also be closed. I have no desire to have a four hour commute just because some drivers can't be trusted to control their vehicles in a stiff breeze.

That's sustained winds because of storms, but their not as high. I agree that they should not close the bridge.....but allowing tractor trailers is stupid!

mandr96, ignore these hardened locals. The wind is crazy and that poor excuse for a bridge is four million stories high with highway dividers as walls. It was obviously built by a bunch of drunk men. I pee my panties every time I cross that biatch.

I rock a minivan. I also picked up a little tip from that crazy Nasa chick. Adult diapers :yay:
You could just sit on a box of cat litter too. :yay: Oh and I would avoid "clumping litter" if I were you.

You've had bad experience with the clumping kind in high winds?
