pgtransplant said:empty trailers are a ##### to control in wind and are the most dangerous. no wight in the back of that trailer just put that thing out there to whiplash around... No fun to drive on days like this... it surprises me they have not stopped empties from crossing there like they did the bay bridge on days like this.

STFU and drive.
mandr96 said:I guess you were lucky enough to come across at a good time. In Florida they close bridges if there are winds in excess of 25 mph. Anyway, I just heard that there was apparently another problem with a truck and it is currently closed to clean up whatever it spilled.
MAYBE the state thinks people driving trucks like that would be smart enough to not cross the bridge in high winds.. Why close it when it has no effect on peoples cars? If I was in a panel truck yesterday I think I would have went around if I had to get to Calvert, I wouldn't have taken a large sail up there.mandr96 said:That's sustained winds because of storms, but their not as high. I agree that they should not close the bridge.....but allowing tractor trailers is stupid!

You'd drive 100 miles out of your way due to a little wind?pgtransplant said:if i had to drive over any of them i would have taken the extra time and went the long way... sorry i don't like driving over it in weather on a regular day i wouldn't want to do it today
Is there any research out there that proves talking hands free on a phone is any better, or less of a distraction, than holding a phone to your ear and yakkin??mandr96 said:.....wasn't holding the phone....hands free!....I was just trying to keep her mind off of her fears, but apparently there is enough other entertainment on and under the bridge she is not yet aware!!!
Since when has the government ever thought we knew what was best for us?itsbob said:MAYBE the state thinks people driving trucks like that would be smart enough to not cross the bridge in high winds.. If I was on my bike yesterday, bet your ass I would have..MMDad said:You'd drive 100 miles out of your way due to a little wind?
MMDad said:I've been driving that bridge for 16 years, and today just was not very bad. I came through at 4:30, and the winds were as strong as at any other time today. The difference is that people were not driving stupid when I came over.
What would be bad is closing the bridge and causing thousands of people to have to detour around to the next bridge, which would also be closed. I have no desire to have a four hour commute just because some drivers can't be trusted to control their vehicles in a stiff breeze.
If I was getting paid by the hourMMDad said:You'd drive 100 miles out of your way due to a little wind?
beachcat said:I agree. Been driving the bridge for 10+ years, and never heard of them shutting it down. Christ, the Bay Bridge is higher. Also, I never heard of the incident you were talking about. And I drove it in a Convertible for 5 years, no problems. Never got blown off the bridge.
What brand name would you suggest?Geek said:I rock a minivan. I also picked up a little tip from that crazy Nasa chick. Adult diapers
Sorry, I get a little carried away sometimes at the lack of driving skilss on the roads these days. Everybody wants to drive, but very few are willing to learn more than to point and stomp on the "go" button.Fat Momma said:wow aps a little compassion...anyway he is right, hands free or not driving on the bridge (especialy in high winds) warrants your full attention..
MMDad said:I hope you told her to hang up and drive! Talk about dangerous, driving over that bridge while yammering on a cell phone.
