With as many distractions that people have (choose to use) today it is becoming more and more important to be very aware of what is going on around you as you ride. Not to mention the agressive drivers that like to switch lanes all the time. Had one guy right behind me today until I could get over and let him get right behind the car that was in front of me. I also saw a guy on a bike really on someones bumper. Dumb a$$.That guy also let him past. Then he was on the next one. Ah well.

Mine isn't obnoxiously loud (the pipes have baffles), but loud enough to get their attention. Even with their car windows shut, I catch most drivers looking around to see what the loud sound is.

I would rather be able to hear than have all sound drowned out by pipes. Pus I like to be able to hear when I get home from a ride. Those dudes with really loud pipes cannot have any clue as to what is going on around them.

That's like people who walk or jog with thingees in their ears (music or whatever). They must be oblivious to whats going on to their rear and sides. I'm sorry but I just think thats dumb.

Yep, I would rather keep my SA, and not count on the other guy. Again, assuming the other guys is out to kill you will almost never fail.

You are wrong. If it is loud enough to make me look around you are "Obnoxiously Loud".

God invented loud bikes and hair gel so you can spot the a**holes from afar.

I agree! Personally I cannot stand those short, open pipes. In the late 90's, Alexandria VA outlawed them.

Yes, it is dumb...........but that's my only source of music while on my Harely. I can still hear fairly well with them in but for those kids and joggers; bad choice for sure. That's one reason why they get jumped. :yay:

Okay, I had a hard time "focusing" on the center, because I was checking the "perimeter" all the time. As a matter of fact, when I forced myself to focus on the center, it really bothered me. I'm used to always checking everything when I'm driving. Maybe that's why?

Yep, if you're a trained observer, that sort of constant scan is second nature. Yet another area where our driver training is lacking.

Yeah, and then they are distracted by you and plow into the Gold wing in front of them stopped for the light.

For every plus of loud pipes, it is demonstrable that there is a least one minus and there is no conclusive evidence that 'loud pipes save lives'.

That eye test focus's on what matters most; vision. I learnted that we, people, have predator and prey vision and, most of the time, when we 'didn't see 'em' we were focusing, using our predator vision on something. They teached us, as riders, to pretty much always use our prey, peripheral, vision and ONLY look where you want to go, always. Bike goes where we look.

So, I weave, a lot. I move around. I never just go along at the pace of traffic. I make myself attracted and noticed by their peripheral vision. If they're gonna kill me, they're gonna have to earn it; no freebe's.

I believe it's also illegal, as it is for a driver in a car.

Earphones or earplugs are and on a bike only allowed one in helmet speaker..(i think).

AND there is conclusive evidence that loud pipes cost lives, not save them.

One of those statistics that probably doesn't take into account a few other factors?
