If you are earning that kind of limited salary, you need to concern yourself with getting an additional job instead of having a baby.
I'd guess most of them weren't planned pregnancies. I know mine wasn't - I was on the pill when I got pregnant with my son.

I agree with your statement, but it doesn't pertain to a person only qualifing for the WIC program and no other gov't program(s).

WIC is a small pittance of healthy nutritious food, given monthly, for children under 5 and pregnant women who qualify.

I'm not knocking the program, what upsets me is the lack of programs in place which could have prevented a woman from getting to this stage in the first place. Unless we solve this problem, we can look forward to next years post of how WIC is expanding again!!!

I somewhat agree. I think the programs are there already. Don't most health depts. already give out free or low cost birth control?

How can you make people with a poor value system (not necessarily poor people) use a preventative alternative? People are dumb and selfish, sometimes wisdom comes with age/experience and it never comes for others. That's what seperates the ones who will use a program to pull themselves up, or abuse it for as long as they can get away with it.

Unfortunately, I still believe the latter is the majority.

The military, maybe with the help of the Chaplains office or Navy Relief should handle the WIC program for junior service members so they cannot be pooled with the other leaches... (If they already have a system in place, which I believe they do, GREAT!!!)

I think the government should quit giving so much money to welfare and foreign countries and put more money into our defense system.

Someone posted in another thread that they had to redo recently renovated military barracks to turn them into a prison. Think about that. The living conditions were good enough for our military men and women, but not good enough for some criminal.

Maybe bars on the windows where needed???

And probably to downsize, most prisoners don't require 2-3 bedroom apartments...

Maybe. But the fact of the matter is that some guy in prison for murder gets a most of the same benefits as your average service member. Medical, dental, housing, food, job training, education, legal assistance.

About the only thing a military person gets that a criminal doesn't is a paycheck. And leave time, unless the prison has a furlough program.

Our taxes pay for the civilian prison system which provide all of the same services at our expense.

They probably are, because Navy dudes don't file lawsuits if they have to share a bathroom.

The problem is not with the program, but with the abusers of it, it sets up a cycle of dependency which leads to lack of motivation to do something for yourself.
:yeahthat:

My ex-SIL is preggo with her 3 child (she is 22 bye the way) and for years has said she has lived with my ex and she doesn't she lives with there mom. She get like $400 a months in foodstamps cause she abuses the system.

You know I read some of these posts and I just wanna go off. At 21 my daughters mom got pregnant with her while finishing college. If it were not for WIC it would have been hell as I could barely take care of myself let alone 3 of us with everything without some type of help. Now granted that my own tax dollars were helping pay for the program so I was helping myself. Thats what WIC is for is to help people not completely to take care of them. Now granted my daughter was only on WIC for 1 year approx. but Im glad the program is around.

You know sometimes I think we are very rude and inconsiderate people in how we biatch about things to take care of our own. I realize that there are people that abuse the system and make it really bad for the truely needy and yes I hate that. But there are also the moms and children that have the JPC's of world out there and could use a little help.

I agree with you that there are plenty of people that need the WIC program. For that reason I think it's a great idea. You are also correct that there are many people who are abusing the system.

A few years back I was working the night crew at a grocery store in Cleveland Ohio. During my time there I saw quite a few people walk in and try to buy liquor and cigarettes with WIC coupons. After being told they couldn't do that, they would purchase allowable items, only to attempt to return them a few hours later, trying to get a refund in cash so they could use the cash to purchase the liquor and cigarettes.

The bottom line is that the WIC program is a great program when used correctly. There should be harsh penelties for those that abuse the system. For example: Those people attempting to abuse the system should be given no more than 2 chances. On the third attempt, children services should be summoned to the residence and remove the children and the parents should be prevented from being able to use the system again for a set period of time.

It's not about me? Then it's not about how my tax dollars are spent, is it? You don't have to agree with me, but I think the number of people recieving govt assistance, in any form, is too high.

I have a sister who can't get her life out of the gutter. She has had two children that she has had to give up. She has a new baby that she concieved while living in a crack house. She has never been able to hold a job, and you should hear some of the excuses, and she is one of the people who collect WIC and is supported by various forms of govt assistance.

She has lied to me to get money, and refused to take care of herself or the babies that she brings into the world. These are the types of people who are on WIC. So don't ask me to look at the world through your rose colored glasses.

I bet your the kind of person that likes to go home at Thanksgiving and Christmas and say look at me, I am such a great person if more people were like me it would be a perfect world. I am so perfect. Well I have seen you and all I can say is :barf:

You are one ugly sad person inside. Oh, and out.
