Ur guess is as good as mine. It kinda turned into a snowball effect. By the middle somewhere it wasn't even about the original post, lol.

Six DWIs in twenty years, so right now he has a license. When it has been suspended, it doesn't stop him. He still drives.

As a parent, people like him really piss me off. I can't help thinking that he could take out my family.

I agree. Do the courts have the right to take your car after a certain number of DWIs? Other than jail time, it seems like there is no way to prevent a repeat offender from driving.

I doubt it but something drastic should be done. You would think breathalizers (spelling?) in cars might work but they could always get someone sober to blow for them i guess.

Ownership of a car can be a factor in parole or penalty decisions. If you the own a car that can be a factor in deciding if you are likely to re-offend.

The guy in my example told the MVA that his car with the breathalyzer was the only one he has access to. Then he laughed because they believed his lie.

Jail time seems adequate.

Provided it's enough jail time.

If you're in prison... you ain't drivin.

It doesn't work that way. The breathalyzer interlock is an effective way to prevent a drunk from driving THAT car. It doesn't stop them from driving a different car.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could spring a Ford Excursion.

That would be my solution as well.

Are most of the DWIs committed by casual social drinkers or by hardcore alcoholics? With the former, it seems like just an attitude problem, a deliberate recklessness. With the latter, there's debate about whether alcoholism is psychological (being in denial about deeper issues) or genetic (having a biological predisposition to getting hooked on alcohol).
