Those of you spending the big$$$$$ on clothes....are you also saving for college? I think it's crazy to spend that kind of money for children's clothes..what are you teaching them? Put the money away for college.

Ok. Seriously. ME spending "big$$$$$" on my childrens clothing has nothing to do with "what I am teaching them". You sound like a complete Fu%&ing Moron. This thread was much nicer, before you stepped in with a comment like that. Explain to me, exactly what buying nice clothing, has to do with a life lesson??

I don't think it's your kids that are in need of an education...

Another reply that wasn't needed. I had such a nice time talking with the 2 ladies I was talking to last night. (LusbyMom and Mousebaby). Throwing out comments regarding my education, or my kids college fund, is just plain not needed.

I NEVER said that purchasing these clothes, were sending me to the poor house. I simply stated, that it pretty much sucks. lol:lmao:

hmmmmmm
You can go to Wal-Mart to get your children a couple pair of jeans, let them take scissors to them, and make them look a hell of alot better than $100 pair of jeans at Hollister....... My ex's sisters wear Hollister, and everytime I went in there with them, they spent over $300 pretty much.... I hated going in that store..... I'm fine with my Old Navy and Wrangler jeans!!!

:yeahthat:

precisely

I hope my son doesn't mind wearing Dickies and Vans until he can afford to buy his own. I want to buy him practical things because he is so active. I'm also hoping he doesn't care to shop at some trendy faggy place like Hollister.....ghey!

Teaching the value of a dollar and how it should be spent is the "life lesson" I believe they're referring to.
Nice things are an extravagance, school clothes are a necessity.
Kids aren't in school for a fashion show, the name brand stuff is better saved as gifts.
If your daughter understood the purchase as an extravagance then fine.
If she expects it because "that's what every one's wearing and I must have it too".........that's not good.

Your kids, spend what you want.

She does understand, that the more it costs for clothing, the less you get. She seems content with it. I set a $500 per kid limit on school clothes, which included shoes. It wasnt until this year though, that I started seeing how "little" we get, for that amount.

my son had to give up going to camp with his friends this year, they are all at camp this week. It is a christian church camp. Hubby had to take a cut in pay because of slow work. I am very proud of my son because he understands that we have to give up some things. We were able to have our family vacaction, camping in Pa. but we could not afford to do both ( camp went up in cost this year ) we talked about it and he decided he did not want to give up our family time camping to pay for his camp this week. His father and I are giving up things as well. We have all learned alot this summer ( with the pay cut ) as to what is really important . It's not the STUFF that is important, It is working together as a family when things are tight that is important.

Giving your children everything turns them into spoiled rotten brats then very unhappy adults.
If they want Hollister shirts that cost 5 times the amount of a normal Tee...MAKE THEM EARN THE MONEY.
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN values that will make thembetter adults. They will thank you one day.

People keep talking about the price of regular shirts. Again I ask what is regular price? What is a good price for a T-Shirt or a pair of jeans or shorts? How much is to much?

The tshirts I bought at Hollister, were $24.50/per shirt. The jeans at Aeropostale, were $29.50 (they were normally $49.50, but were on sale)

I think that everyone decides what is "too much" depending on their family income. Those prices are well within my budget. I was still shocked though, that we get so little, for so much money. I guess its because my youngest will still wear walmart clothing (gotta love that).....and now the oldest wants named brand things.

Now, granted, think that $120 for a pair of jeans is a bit steep. We looked at those at Lucky Jeans. lol " Lucky if ya get a pair"!

Shirts in walmart- $5.98
Shirts in Hollister- $ 45.00
Teaching your kid the value of a dollar- Priceless.

You do the math. I'm personally not paying $45 for a t-shirt that my child will probably stain in 2 days. That's just me. Call me cheap. I like to say "I'm Frugal" :lmao:

I don't spend more then what is within my budget either. I don't think $24 for a shirt is to much IF the kid is not going to outgrown it in a couple of months and they appreciate it and take care of it. I was just shocked by some of the responses.

Try going to the Pink Coconut and checking out their prices.. Their Justin Timberlake jeans are $189 :faint:

$5.98??? Where?

I shop for my kids at Hollister and Aeropostale and stuff and I don't spend that much. If you watch the sales you can get them pretty cheap.

I have spent $45 on a hoodie but they wear them for a couple of years. Plus they get passed down, so in the end it's worth it.

$5.98 is all depending on age. My kids are all small and that's the average that I spend on shirts. But, they grow out of them quickly and stain them almost instantly. With older kids they tend to do less of that.

I shopped alot there when my kids were younger and toddlers.. they had those little shorts and tanks for like $2, that was great! Youngest daughter loves the Mary Kate and Ashley stuff, I think most of it's ugly.

When my kids were young my sis would buy them all kinds of name brands and spend a fortune I told her she was crazy! I remember one outfit I know she spent at lease $60 on, it was Polo and my oldest wore it for like 2 years, then my youngest wore it for a few years and now the girl up the street wears it  I do have to say it has held up very well and looks like it did new.
