That's not what I read:

So you're saying that if a kid gets hurt at the bus stop, the driver should just leave them there and has no responsibility to try and help them or at least *call* for help???

If that were my kid, we'd be talking about a lawsuit.

The bus driver had a responsibility to inform the school or the transportation department so their parents could be called.

The kid never got on the bus. Therefore the kid was never the bus drivers responsibility.

All the bus driver knows is that the kid but one foot on the step. Then steped back and leaned on the mailbox crying.

Hate it all you want and welcome to the English language :howdy:

re·tard /rɪˈtɑrd

–verb (used with object) 1. to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede.

–verb (used without object) 2. to be delayed.

–noun 3. a slowing down, diminution, or hindrance, as in a machine.

He sure as hell did have a responsibility to report that.

To be completely honest, I could care less if you want to resort such juvenile language. I have two teenagers in my house and know darned well what is meant by the term. no wool here vrai. :smack:

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program folks...

I believe this is an error. By saying you "could" care less means you do care to a certain degree that would allow you to actually decrease your degree of caring, thus caring less, while still caring some measurable degree. If you said "couldn't" care less then that would mean you are devoid of any caring at all. Being that you have no measurable care you could not possibly care less.

I've never been a bus driver, but I'm guessing that's not in the bus driver handbook.. BUT to make everyone happy, I'm sure he's going to get fired anyway.

Well, no matter how little you care, it's always possible to care even less.

What transportation department??
You mean like the mom did??

The school district said that Linda has never approached the school about any sort of special transportation service for her child.

Since Miranda's leg was hurt before the incident that may have helped.

As a mom with a 12yr old. I know even if the are hurt that doesnt always mean they want mommy walking them to the bus stop. I am assuming that the previous was a mild incident. Maybe a sprain or something. My 12 yr old broke his foot last yr, and there was NO special transportation. The school did nothing but give him a cahir when he got to school. We only had one vehicle, so i couldnt drive him to school so he HAD to ride the bus. I simply see a situation here, that we don't know all the facts about, because the report was very minimal in info. It could have been both parties fault. The mom for not going with her daughter, and most deffinately leaving the child the way he did. At the least he could have radio'd into the office and had them call her mother. I think this was a giant BOOBOO on all parties concerned.

Report what. That some girl was crying and said she wasn't getting on the bus.

I would be willing to bet that the bus driver was unaware that the girl just blew out her hip trying to get on to the bus.

I can see both sides of this. First mom should have been at the bus stop. However, if the child is crying in pain barely able to stand propped up aginst a mail box you would think any compassionate human would have offered help.

To be honest I do wonder sometimes about the caliber of people they hire to drive school buses. We had one up here in Calvert that would yell and curse at the kids, and these were five and six year olds (the kids that is).

I would be truly surprised if it wasn't in the handbook. I'm almost willing to bet it is. He was aware she had tripped and fell and judging b the article, he was aware she was injured. It's HIS responsibility to report that to the school so they can contact her parents.

You've never worked in any board of education or school, have you?

Tripped and fell??

What article are you reading??

She stepped up, and stepped back down...

NOT the drivers job to help her on the bus, or carry her bookbag.. or wipe her little tears.

Nowhere in the article does it say what really happened to the girl either. It doesn't give the results of the ER or doctor visit, you know where you would take your kid if you thought she "dislocated her hip"

Whatever man, all I know is thank god my wife is a school teacher so we have the ability to drive our child to school. Who the hell knows what those drivers are on.

She DID NOT get on the bus. Bus drivers are supposed to report whenever a student DOES NOT GET ON THE BUS! I know this because I've worked inside more schools than you have probably ever gone to. I've also worked inside the Board of Education - the area where they would transmit messages to the buses and the department that would handle other communications to the buses such as disorderly conduct and need of police presence or etc.
