Almost impossible to determine before the original engine is torn down and the machining costs/requirements assessed.

True

A rebuild kit that includes everything inc. new pistons is only about 350 bucks for a 350 Chevy. So if the block does not need to be bored..and the heads are not slap worn out..and the mechanic doing the work knows what they are doing...

Yup

It can be a good bit cheaper to rebuild it rather than purchase a reputable long block assy. Or not.

Depending upon the condition of the block, of course.

I am hoping that haul up the steep road in CRE didn't do any serious damage to the engine that day :fingerscrossed:.

Just giv'er five and dump the clutch!

I still have more work to do after the rebuild. The front end needs some attention. Once I get the front end done, I'll put in new springs and shocks, and then I'll be ready to pull the horse trailer with it again. Hopefully after the new Springs, the front end won't be trying to pop wheelies LOL

Stopped at the shop to check on the Blazer yesterday and he said no problems were found with the block :yay:

It's supposed to be ready today ....... but if it takes a few more days, I'll be patient. I'd never want to rush the person putting my engine back together <G> .

so I go to Auto Zone to get a new Idler Pulley and realize they only sell the main unit, not the parts that attach to it. So I start looking online in an attempt to identify the name of the parts (bolt, ?, ? ). I think one of the parts is called a spacer, there is a part that looks like this part but mine actually looks like the attached pictures ....

where can I buy this? and I do NOT want to have to go to the dealer parts dept. if at all possible ...... :jerry:

I think what your picture is showing is a broke all to hell "belt tensioner", but I can't be sure. Look it up for your year, make, model, engine size on rockauto.

My searches online cause me to think it is a spacer. I will check rock.

Nope I'm not finding it on rock. I may need to take the part to the dealer parts dept to see if they can match it up? Or make a trip to the junkyard?

Do you have a picture of where the item was on the vehicle? Might be easier to identify that way.

You sure it's the idler pulley and not the belt tensioner you're looking for?

did you break the damn truck again

Actually it hasn't been on the road because I am saving up to get the parts to get the front end fixed. The idler pulley part went awry in the driveway when I was moving vehicles around.

Yup took the offending part off and went to Auto Zone for identification. The problem is you get the part new, but it doesn't come with the stuff that goes in the center (bolt, washer, and spacer). The bolt and the washer are fine, it's the spacer that got chewed up somehow (see prior pictures).
