One item of note, are the ones coming off the stockers? I dont know if checvy used these things, but if they did and you dont remove them it can cause heartache on non-stock wheels.

Stockers? Not sure.

I was told this suv was sold new as customized with special interior light strips, leather steering wheel, custom wheels (not ones on it), and the paint job was part of the custom package.

That sort of thing is usually a "dealership special", or a regional package like the old California Mustangs, where the dealership or a bunch of them just have them modded locally. And there are places that do packages like Southern Comfort which buy direct from the maker, and then dealerships buy. Does it have a nameplate of any kind?

Yup the work was done by Custom Craft Vehicles - see the pictures. I can no longer read the color description on that one tag, but an estimate I got many years was $5k to redo the colors and they'd have to order the templates from the original shop. Thankfully I've managed to keep the paint damage free aside from the clear coat starting to peel off, and it wasn't ever garaged. So I am surprised at how well the paint has lasted exposed to the elements all these years.

That second sticker appears to say they mounted 16 inch tires on 15 inch wheels.........neat trick that. What size tires are on there now?

when I bought it at 3 years old, it had 15" tires on the same 15" rims in this picture. So someone removed the rims/tires and switched them for these apparently. It isn't like I bought it alone - had a guy with me and he didn't realize the tires were not 16" either :duh:

hahaha

you can fit 33 x 12.5 on 15's just as easy as 16.5's

why not got for 22's then

:buddies:

The SUV looks odd with small-ish 15" tires on it. I liken it to seeing a 6' tall guy with size 8 feet, you know? It just doesn't look balanced.

If money were no object I STILL WOULD NOT buy those expensive and ugly wheels I see people guys sporting for $1k to $4k per wheel. Anyway, that money (if there was lots) would be better spent on critter rescue.

Daughter got her rims for the Geo Storm this way. Worked out pretty good. Only took about 3-4 days for the shipping, threw them in the car and she got them mounted and balanced at I think Mr Tire, the tire joint closest to Rt 4 in First Colony.

For a classic look, I like these. there is also a polished version.

Or you could go a litttle bit crazy with black, nice striping. And AMerican Racing is a great name. Steel is light and less susceptible to damage.

PS - all the numbers confuse me - says 16x8 - now what does THAT mean?

I saw I have 6x6.5 which equates to 6x139.7 metric apparently and now I see 16x8

16x8 is the diameter and width of the tire while,

http://www.townfairtire.com/wheels-rims/understanding-wheel-size/

while the 6 x 6.5 indicates the lug bolt pattern. First number is the number of lugs, while the second number is the distance between lugs.

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/techpage.jsp?techid=92&currentpage=102

with six lugs, that second number is measured like the four lug wheel would be.

and I do like that one you showed, it's about as classic a truck wheel as you can get. Like the American Torq Thrusts on a muscle car, just a great look.

I like the PRICE too - I just hope I don't end up with spacing issues. I really REALLY want to get Pirelli Scorpian tires again, but their price of around $200 a tire is a lot compared to the set I had years ago that ran about $408.

I like the Pirelli AT tires I had before. I still have 1 left and it says: 31x10.5R15 I think it's possible that the same size tire in a 16" may not fit the wheel well? I know I had trouble before finding a wider tire that did fit. The tires and wheels together could end up costing $1,600 which is not what I wanted to spend. I was hoping I'd find decent wheels/tires someone had in their garage for $600 but I don't think I'll get that lucky.

I think these might fit the bill.

If you want the wider ones, which are closer to the size you had in 15s, this is a better match.

I ran I think two sets of Kuhmos on the +300hp Neon and they were good tires. Not like the Michelin Pilot Sports it came with, but at less than 1/2 the price for 80% of the performance, it was an acceptable tradeoff.

I have a set in the garage with some 265/75/16 tires that have a bit of tread, however I think the offset may be to high and you could rub.

Closest to the 31x10.5 in a 16", is 265/70/16. The 265/75/16 are 31.5, but can vary depending on the type.

These are the wheels I picked up for $50, and the tires are Pirelli Scorpion ATR, 265/75/16 which I got a for a steal from discount tire.

I like the wider tires for sure. I feel like I get better stopping power when I haul and it looks good too. Thanks.

I am looking for my list of parts I need for the font end, now where is that file folder? Too bad I can't buy a front end "kit" that just includes everything - I am pretty sure I'll be replacing almost everything considering how long that list is. It may just be in my best interest to add in a few more new parts?
