Let me just say, for you to call me an "ignoramous" without even knowing my situation or who I am tells me a lot about the advice you have to offer.

Have a good one! :buttkick:

Nope...what you said to start this thread....said it all... :killingme

I've been in St. Mary's most of my life. It's home and I love it. I love raising my children here, and they certainly don't have any complaints. There's plenty for them to do. Mine are involved in lots of activities, have never lacked friends and are never bored.

You my sir are an abosulte ignoramous to be moving your family here for your retirement from Va Beach. You and your family are going to be very sad....going from a place that has so much to offer...to nowhere land. Good luck to you and yours though. The more power to you!! hahaa muahahah
VA Beach is nothing but a dirty beach full of tourists and traffic. I'd much rather raise my family in Southern Maryland. VA Beach is not the kind of place that you call home. And definently not a place to raise children. You're just pissed because you miss your night life, aren't you?

There is more to Va Beach than just the beach, there are lots of nice neighborhoods in the area. That being said, I agree that it's not the best place to raise a family, having family that was raised there, and friends from there as well.

That place is alot different than it was when I growing up. We always went there or OBX every summer. I lived in NC 12 years ago. That was the last time that I really spent time in VA Beach. I drove through a few years ago and stopped for a walk. Ugh.

I rarely visited Va Beach when we lived here when we were younger. When we moved to MD, my aunt (who lived near us in NC) moved to Va Beach, and I spent a lot of time there in the summer. I lived there for about six months a few years ago. My aunt's kids are heathens, but I'm not sure how much of that has to do with the area, and how much has to do with her crappy parenting skills. I only know one normal person that grew up there, and she's the only sane one out of four siblings.

I grew up in Kempsville and a proud graduate of Kempsville High School. Plenty to do, never once bored. I got to experience maybe three months of night life after i turned 18, so I don't really know what that has to do with anything. I want my child to be raised in a normal environment.

IC. Is the traffic truely horrendous when traveling over the bridge to Calvert county? I was told it really backs up.

At times it down right scuks, it's the reason I chose to live in Lexington Park and could not be happier, I laugh at the traffic backup's over the bridge knowing I don't have to go there... :coffee:

Please remove your head from your a$$, I moved here for my retirement from the US Navy after 24 years and absolutely LOVE IT!!! I've lived in Va. Beach and pretty much everywhere else in the world. This is an awesome place to retire at for family, homes, fishing, crabbing, golfing, hunting, and you are closer to some of the best cultural centers in the US. Regardless of what this person says, I disagree!!! :coffee:

Hey all. Someone turned me torwards this site to help answer some of my questions, so here we go:

5. Does the cost of living vary drastically between Virginia Beach and Pax area?

Thanks

Here's a good link to get some comparisons. The first one is the results of a comparison I did based on supplied information. The second link will allow you to make your own comparison.

I grew up in St. Mary's. Always had something to do. Never got into any trouble for the most part. You want your child to be raised in a normal environment? Like so many in here have said to me in the past: What defines normal? If you are trying to uproot her to a city: Good luck finding normal there

UPROOT her? Are you kidding me..she will be a little over two by the time we leave here. All my family is back home. I never once had a problem with where I grew up. I think people look on this site and see me posting about how wonderful Va Beach is. Let me put it like this. I have lived there for a grand majority of my life. It is where I call home. It may not be special to anyone else, but it is special to me and holds a place deep in my heart. I have had many memorable experiences there and some not so memorable ones. Va Beach has many things to offer, that is why it is such a great tourism spot. I could sit here and post for hours on what makes Va Beach so popular, but people would piss and moan leaving nasty red karma saying how I should leave. you are right, I will leave and I shall. September, and believe me, I am sooo counting down the days!

And this is exactly the reason that so many of us like it here. We take offense at people who say negative things about Southern Maryland, just as you take offense at us for saying negative thigns about VaBeach. It's all about personal choice, and where people want to live. If you don't like it here, then find that place that makes you happy.

This is my home - has been for 44 years. It IS special to me, and it holds a special place in my heart. My family is here; my friends are here. I've had many memorable experiences here, and a very few not so memorable ones. SoMD had many things to offer, but only to those people who actually get out of their house and explore the area and the many activities that we have.

If you can't say something nice about this place, then don't say anything at all.
