They will if you want to pay more, but the usual seed. Our lawn is a seeded lawn, and it looks better than most sodded yards.

I was actually at LaPlata mill looking at grass seed and when I went to one pile they were like "you dont want that" and when I asked why he told me thats the grass seed all the home builders buy. It shoots up extremely quick, makes an extremely green yard and is good for one season and then dies. It never comes back and you have to redo it every year. They use it while trying to sell the houses. Just make sure its not that kind, even though for the life of me I cant remember the name of it.

Well, I guess my builder used a different seed. I've had a beautiful lawn for over 10 years.

Annual Rye. I believe Scotts name for it is Qwik grass or something tricky like that. It doesn't really make a lot of sense to use it when you can get a good Fescue for close to the same price.

Mix it with the good seed for the quick green up for new or repaired lawns.

Back on topic:

If you give this place a chance you'll grow to love it, just ask any of the hundreds (thousands) of retired Navy folks who returned here after they got out. Then again I've been here most of my life and this place is my "One Particular Harbor".

It's only bad during rush hour. That's why a lot of people choose to live on the St. Mary's side.

LOL and thats what I love about this place.

It really depends on what your used to when it comes to traffic. On most trafficy days maybe an extra 5-10 minutes to get over the bridge. If there is an accident it can depend.

But coming from driving to DC and back for 8 years my the traffic over the bridge is a breeze.

Hey all. Someone turned me torwards this site to help answer some of my questions, so here we go:

1. Moving from VB to Pax area after retirement. Where are the best schools?
2. Where's the quietest area to live? Nicest also?
3. I'm not finding much in apartments...where can I locate that info?
4. 4 bedroom house, new construction. What cost range can I expect?

and finally...

5. Does the cost of living vary drastically between Virginia Beach and Pax area?

Thanks

You my sir are an abosulte ignoramous to be moving your family here for your retirement from Va Beach. You and your family are going to be very sad....going from a place that has so much to offer...to nowhere land. Good luck to you and yours though. The more power to you!! hahaa muahahah

For those that don't know it, Maryland has changed the law starting with the 2006 tax year that allows military retirees to deduct $5000 from your taxable military retirement income.

Here is the instruction:

u. Up to $5,000 of military retirement income received by a qualifying individual during the tax year. To qualify you must have been a member of an active or reserve component of the armed forces of the United States, a member of the Maryland National Guard, or you must have retired after July 1, 1991 from active duty with the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or the Coast and Geodetic Survey.

This instruction was taken from the Maryland Tax instruction booklet for 2006.

Let me just say, for you to call me an "ignoramous" without even knowing my situation or who I am tells me a lot about the advice you have to offer.

Have a good one! :buttkick:

Smart person :yay:

I lived in St. Mary's for 11 years, moved away for 9, then just recently moved back. I like it here.

I was reading in the Sunday paper last weekend that in St. Mary's there is a growing concern of gangs and violence in the county. The article said there is also an increase in robberies. There also seems to be more violence at the school's that are in St. Mary's county.

I live in Calvert and my daughter goes to the middle school here. The school has been great so far.

There is not a lot of places to shop locally for clothes. The nicer mall is at least an hour away. There is a Target, Lowes, BJ's, Old Navy and Ross to name a few of the big retailers.
