Biden Attempts to Reframe Election Around Jan. 6 in Rushed White House Speech
“Only four years ago, my predecessor sent a violent mob to the U.S. Capitol to stop the peaceful transfer of power,” Biden said, repeating a narrative Trump has refuted with evidence and that Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) “get Trump” January 6 Committee apparently destroyed evidence to perpetuate.
Biden continued, apparently straying from the teleprompter. “But also with our own eyes, we sat there and watched it happen that day,” he said. “Attack on the police [sic], the ransacking of the capitol, a mob [indiscernible] hunting down the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, gallows erected to hang the Vice President Mike Pence, I think it’s fair to say is [sic] one of the darkest days in the history of America.”
Undeterred by his stumbles, Biden pressed on, saying, “Now the man who sent that mob to the U.S. Capitol is facing potential criminal conviction for what happened that day, and the American people deserve to have an answer in the courts before the upcoming election.”
After Monday’s ruling, Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Washington prosecution of Trump for alleged election interference connected with January 6 is possibly dead, or at least critically wounded, as Biden acknowledged Monday night.

On Wednesday, Jean-Pierre declared that Vice President Kamala Harris is the “future” of the Democratic Party.
“I think his statement stands. I mean, one of the reasons why he picked Vice President Kamala Harris is because she is indeed the future of the Democratic Party,” Jean-Pierre said. “And he’s very proud to have partnered with her and continue to partner with her and deliver an unprecedented record for the American people.”
The Biden official said the president has kept true to comments he made in 2020 about being a “bridge to the next generation of Democratic leaders.”
During the press conference, a reporter asked Jean-Pierre if Biden had plans to drop out of the race, to which she said he did not.

In a 2023 Reason article, the outlet pointed out that Harris's 2019 presidential aspirations failed due to her inconsistencies, vague policy positions, disarray, and, disagreement among her campaign staff.
The outlet dubbed her as a “flop.”
“Harris' stumbles led many to wonder whether the candidate, who had climbed the political ladder in California's deeply Democratic circles, was really fit for a national campaign,” the outlet wrote. “Yet she ended up on the Democratic presidential ticket anyway, at least partly because of party pressure on Biden to pick a black woman as running mate.”

During the same gathering, the outlet reported, Biden responded to a question from Hawaii Gov. Josh Green about his health by saying while his health was fine, the problem was “just my brain,” an apparent attempt at humor that went unrecognized by at least one state leader in the room.
“President [George W.] Bush went to bed at 9, and President [Barack] Obama made dinner at 6:30,” Biden-Harris campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz said in a statement to the Times. “Normal presidents strike a balance, and so does Joe Biden. Hardly the same rigor as Donald Trump who spends half of his day ranting on Truth Social about plans that would cause a recession and other half golfing.”
