I'm a stay at home dad....so eat those apples! And, btw, thanks for helping me to have a more clarified understanding of the topic.

Did you know that they also get reduced rent?

:yay:
That they do.

We had a cop in the apartment building we used to live in, and I think he paid half of what we did. Didnt make no nevermind to me since I was always sickin him on the hood rats in the neighborhood.

They are allowed to use the patrol car for personal use, but when they do they have to carry their badge and gun with them.

Well..i am sure the badge may have been in a pocket...who knows about a gun... Would he have taken it into the gym...who knows... either way, i didnt see either of them. if that makes a differnce.

If officers are allowed to use the cars for personal use...who foots the bill for the gas/maintenance for the cars? Tax payers? If so...then, my understanding is that tax payers are paying to allow officers to use their cars for personal use... humm... i wanna know where I can go sign up for a county owned car so I can let the public pay for me to drive where ever I want..... :sarcasticly speaking: I really dont mean any offense....It just dosent sound right to me...

I'll say it again - so that some bozo dosent start flaming me for no reason....i only know one side of this paticular situation...

I can think of a lot worse ways they spend money. Has anyone seen the mobile, programmable lit-up sign outside the landfill advertizing "free mulch"? WTH? How much did that cost us?

Quit yer biatching. You'd be biatching if you DIDN'T see any patrol cars out, saying we need more cops out there. Not every officer in the county can be on duty at the same time. So, having them out and about , while "off duty", in their patrol cars makes it seem like we have more police presence.
The gas money we taxpayers pay for them to patrol like this is far worth it, compared to how much more crime we would see if we never saw "off duty" cops out and about.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

Come on over and ask my neighbor, he's sleeping right now because he just got off night shift duty. I'm sure he won't mind you waking him up to ask why the patrol car is parked in his driveway.

Oh no, I dont have a problem with officers taking the cars home! They should do as much - imo. I'm talking about using the cars for unofficial business - i.e. going to the store, gym, etc.

If you want to risk your life every single day you're at work, you should apply right now @ the Sheriff's Office or the Md State Police. They aren't at home playing with their kids or on the internet. The wish they were. They put on that uniform and never know when someone is going to shoot at them or try to kill them. When their wives kiss them goodbye, they never know if that's the last time they'll see them or not. They see the absolute worse scenarios that you could ever imagine. If you're in trouble and you see a cop car, don't you feel a little better immediately? If you just came here to bash the police, please leave right now.

I don't understand why you're so bent on this issue. Why don't you approach one of the officers when you see them on "unofficial" business and ask them why they are using a patrol car. Maybe they are on their way home or to work.

Please report your findings back to us.

...I don't understand this at ALL. As far as I am concerned, officers should be REQUIRED to use their patrol cars everywhere they go, on duty or off.

I don't care if he is in the gym, the McDonald's, the Mall or in a restaurant. His car alone says 'police presence' and that is the entire point of patrolling in the first place, as I understand it.

Why wouldn't we want cops in their patrol cars off duty?

good point....i didnt see things from that perspective! Thats why i post here on these forums....to see things from different perspectives... thanks

I understood that this would be a passionate subject for some prior to my post...hence the reason i asked for understanding of things... LARRY - pulled through and made the mose sense to me and did it without attemping to belittle me as a person.

I have no agenda to bash anyone PLEASE read my initial post. If you read - I was looking for understanding. I was not making "bashing" statements about anyone. Hope I cleared that up!

My neighbor is a police officer. She does not take her patrol car with her on personal business, because she does not want to carry her badge and gun.

Some follow the rules, some don't.

lol.. I was looking for understanding of things...you know...learn of other perspectives of the subject... and I did...as i said in a previous post (see reply post to Larry). I am not "bent" on anything else but obtaining a better understanding.

Why not approach officers and ask for myself. Well...I dont think it would be in good taste. How would you like for someone to approach you and question your actions? I dont have all the answers....and would much rather obtain a deeper understanding of things before making an azz of myself.

Its never too late to broaden your understanding of things. If there was a time limit on doing such, we'd all be narrow minded - forever.

If certain folks read my initial post correctly the first time...they would have clearly understood my intent.

Then again...without those folks....there'd be no drama here on the boards....and the boards would be boring.

HAIL TO THE DRAMA QUEENS!! :lmao: :lmao: :jameo:
