fast moving colorful images keep the brain "awake" try switching to a book or some other calm activity (me and monster put all of her toys night night:killingme ) I also make sure she does not eat any less than an hour before she goes to bed..digesting can affect sleep as well.

toddlers don't need milk. if they have enough fat and variety in their diet, it doesn't matter a bit. You can give them milk in a sippy, thats not a problem, just make sure they have some water after to rinse the mouth.

you have to be consistant. hearing them throw a fit is annoying and you desperately want them to stop. however, thats exactly why they do it, to annoy you into doing whatever it is they want. make sure his room/sleeping area is safe, and continue your routine and put his little butt to bed when he needs to go. if he has to throw a fit for an hour, so be it. but that will end as soon as he sees no more intervention from you and realizes it gets no results..he wouldn't be doing it if he didn't get some sort of "reward" outof the deal.

case and point:
When I put monster to bed we have our songs worth (one song on her ocean noises/classical cd) of cuddling and back patting, and then I leave. no fuss, no muss. SHe goes immediately to sleep. she rarely, rarely makes a peep when I leave the room. When I witnessed her being put to bed at her father's house, it took him 45 minutes to an hour to put her down and she still threw a bit of a fit when he left the room. WHY? because he prolongs it, makes a big deal out of it, and is inconsistant. He thinks his routine is the same as mine, and wonders why he gets diff results. I do the same thing every night without fail. she knows it, she knows how things are. She knows he will come back in if she fusses, and that he will stay long past one song and she exploits it. We underestimate toddlers' abilities. She is not stupid, she knows who she can play and who she can't.

I need mommy lessons. :bawl:

I have been giving him milk and juice in a sippy cup this whole time. :jameo:

he already has all of his teeth and we brush them but he has milk before bed. :cds:

I am SO STRESSED OUT :cds:

My advice is just that of the others. Give him his milk or juice before he brushes his teeth. In the end, it really does not matter what we say. Parent YOUR kid how YOU see fit. :huggy:

But he also counts to 5 and knows how to say please and more in sign language...:diva: ( 16 months old )

I think all kiddos are different and have stages and phases that are different as well.

He'll be 17 months on the 23rd. LOL, I didn't even know he could count, we sort of stumbled onto it this past weekend. Daycare teaches him so much. He doesn't say "duck duck". LOL, he does say "thank you" rather well. It's funny when he gets really excited and REALLY wants something, he's rubbing as hard and as fast across his belly (that's please) it's hilarious.

I thought your kid was older than my kid... He was born Apr 25 11.... and he is 17 months...

Your stress level will decrease dramatically once you stop letting everything stress you out. He is fine. You are doing fine. He is probably starting to react to your stress about bedtime. Relax. He will be ok.

Born 05/23/11, so technically he's 16.3 months. Or 71 weeks. You had me second guessing myself, had to go count again, how bad would that be if I didn't know his age :killingme

And your kids not behind, it's more of a game with Chase, I say "one' he says "two" I say "three", he says "four" then YAAAAAAY and throws his arms up in the air, he doesn't know he's counting

Wirelessly posted (Samsung Galaxy S III )

Mine knows the state capitals and how to sing her ABCs. I have to thank the sugar free Red Bull she gets at lunch each day.

Well, you've gotten a lot of good advice. Quiet play time right before bed is nice too, and I'm a big fan of having a toy or two in the crib. We had a FP crib aquarium for the oldest. We would sing Twinkle Twinkle after we put him in bed and then turn on the aquarium. You could hear him turn it back on several times himself before he fell asleep.

Regarding the climbing, a crib tent worked for my oldest for a very short period of time. I think it gave us 1 extra month. It however did not work for the youngest. Lay blankets a/o pillows next to the crib if you're afraid of the fall.

Also, radio or even a cd player with a lullaby CD in it playing very quietly. That was also very soothing for Thing1.

Good grief, he loves his music by his bedside to this day. But it's definitely not quiet, or lullabies anymore! :cds:

So... reading didn't go over to well.

I began reading Ratatouille (yes, we have a book with the story as well)

rat.jpg our cover looks a little more orange-ish but  whatever.

I begin reading ... he was all ":eyebrow:"

I kept going... he was then "" and stood up and put his stuffed moose in my face as to muffle the noise of my annoying voice. :ohwell:

Tonight I am going to try the Finding Nemo story... Le'sigh... :coffee:

:huggy: I have to literally leave the room and he sits with my husband till bedtime and falls asleep with husband. Apparently mommy is too distracting and keeps him awake. Most times they fall asleep while reading the laptop...not sure if that's better or worse than television?? I'm slowly learning or getting it through my skull that as long as he's getting a good nights sleep that's what matters.
