:yeahthat: It's absolutely ridiculous... as a single older person and someone who has never had any interest in buying a house before... I feel as though I missed the boat... :frown: Try doing what I'm doing and just having faith that there's a place just for me somewhere --I just need to find it :huggy:
What did the realestate agent tell you when you asked about buying a home you think you can afford?

I don't have a clue. But maybe you can be the first. You'll have a monopoly.

Look... Dahlgren, Bloomington, whatever. I'm sure there's places out there, and some of them within a couple hours driving distance, where you can practice law and find affordable housing.

I'm not trying to be mean. But it sounds to me like you just don't want to look. You only want to complain.

I bought a house just over a year ago with nothing down. I shopped for months before finding a home loan package that wouldn't penalize me for that. I bought a house that was destroyed by the previous owners and fixed it up, month by month. But it's mine. And I didn't make a lot of money relative to the price of housing. Roughly 2/5 of my paycheck goes to my mortgage every month.

Like someone said... it's about priorities.

I can feel the month to month fixing up of a house. We bought my bf mother's old townhouse and we've had it for 1 1/2 years and it still needs a lot of work. It's nothing that makes it unliveable, it's just not what I am used too. It beats renting anyday though.

We got lucky, his father is in real estate and one of his friends in the biz helped us out. His mom paid all closing, we didn't have to put anything down 2and we got the house for $137,500 and the houses in the neighborhood are selling for $195,00 recently. We thought about selling to get a SFH but I'm currently in school and we would rather wait till I finish school (5 years or more) and I get a better salary to sell and buy another house.

We really got lucky all we had to do fill out the paper work and supply check stubs and then show up for settlement, everything else was taken care of.

:huggy: about 45% goes away in taxes... what is left is absorbed in commuting and other job related things...

Dems I know a woman who works dowtown as a legal secretary at a large firm and she bought a new townhome 2 years ago. I saw the neighborhood where the townhomes were being built and at that time they started at $250,000. I don't know how she did it and never asked. I know she took in 2 roommates to help out, but she wanted her own place and she got it.

but Huntr1 I'm not trying to argue with you but you still have 3 kids that you can claim as deductions so you see more of your paycheck then a single person does -- am I correct
If you think that what I save per paycheck in deductions for the kids even comes CLOSE to what it costs to feed/clothe/entertain/activity/etc. them, you are hopelessly farking clueless. Have you seen the price of milk lately? We go thru about 6 gallons a week I believe. That right there is more than my child deductions.

Do like I did, at 30 bought myself a 1br condo. Yeah its only 900 sq ft, but I am single and live alone, and my mortgage is only $600 a month (in Montgomery County for that matter!)

Its a starting point. Not everybody can afford the single family home with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths immediately, but there ARE options.

Modular Home

Hopefully someone with some specialized knowledge can help me out here. I own a 1989 66X28 Patriot Energymate modular home (modular, not mobile) one story rambler, 2 bath 3 bedroom) on a full basement that I want to sell because my husband and I are building a log home on the current foundation. This home came in here in two pieces and can leave in two pieces but I have no idea who to contact to try move this home, let alone how to sell it.

It would be a great starter home for someone and very affordable. Any advice on how to proceed would be very much appreciated.

Also need recommendations on plumbing subcontractors with excellent reputations!

Thanks
