I was surprised by Nicco too. Travis was a great showman but his voice is so-so. Was very disappointed in Anwar this week.

Am I the only one calling in votes for Travis outta guilt because he's the only local kid and Fox 5 keeps putting out promo's for folks to get on his bandwagon? I thought he sucked last night... but he's local... gotta route for the local folks... I'm from Dale City which is close to Mannassas so... I felt compelled...

YOU'RE THE ONE! Last year some very talented people were voted off because people didn't vote for talent but for the hometown kid... :twitch:

Not me... I don't recall anyone being local... I voted for Kelly Clarkson first season, Rueban next season and Fantasia last year (I have Fantasia CD btw and it's awesome)... and I'm putting my vote and phone call $$ behind the local guy until he gets booted off (probably tonight). Kind of liking the Redskins because they are my home team... gotta root for Travis..

I'll root for the 'Skins but not some singer cuz they are local..Gotta be Idol material!

Awww... cut the kid some slack... the most deserving one wins in the end anyways -- except for that time they cut that one chick prematurely a few years back ... what was her name?

I just didn't like anyone tonight. Compared to the guys on Monday, the girls were pretty bad. Voted for Nadia and Carrie hoping that next week they will be better. I think they both have great voices but just choose the wrong songs this week.

I'm still a big Carrie fan and last night Jessica did really well but I wasn't impressed with the other ones a whole lot. Mikalah was better than last week....

Is anyone surprised with the final 12 contestants? I was surprised that Nikko didn't make it from the guys. For the girls I think the last three - Janay, Amanda and Mickela it was a hard choice. All of them should have gone but... I think the rest all deserve to be there, but now the fun begins. I can't wait to see Bo or Konstantin try to sing Manalow.

I was surprised that Nikko didn't make it. I thought he was probably one of the best singers left. As of right now....I'm voting for Scott and Carrie!

Actually I'm glad with the results.... I'm soo glad I don't have the guilt driven obligation to route for Travis anymore, and the more I've gotten to know the fat boy, I don't like him. He has too much baggage and attitude... I kind of like the guy in the long dreadlocks and I like Jesica and the lady with the big do that was dubbed the next Tina Turner -- I'm putting my money on those three to go all the way.

Your betting on them kind of assures that they will be gone real quick, doesn't it?

Mario

LOS ANGELES (AP) — "American Idol" finalist Mario Vazquez, citing "personal issues," withdrew from the talent competition Sunday, and producers of the Fox show called in the son of a baseball Hall of Famer as backup.Fox bumped Nikko Smith, the son of baseball great Ozzie Smith, into Vazquez's spot because Smith got more votes than Travis Tucker when both were voted off Wednesday, the network said.

Now, viewers of the No. 1-rated series will get a chance to reconsider their votes as Smith and the other 11 finalists perform Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST. The show airs live to the East Coast and is tape-delayed on the West Coast.

Vazquez, 27, had been picked by many fans and three fellow finalists as a favorite to win the competition.

He told TV Guide's Web site that he dropped out to "take care of some personal issues with my family in New York. And with `Idol' being a live show, it just wouldn't have worked out schedule-wise."

Vazquez said his departure had nothing to do with Fox or the show itself.

"It's just a personal family thing," he told the Web site. "My family is my top priority."

Smith, 22, of St. Louis, said in an interview before Sunday's announcement that he wasn't surprised to have been voted off.

"I wasn't as disappointed as people thought I would be because I've made it so far," he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I'm happy to get all that exposure. Millions and millions of people watch the show, and hopefully somebody saw me and liked what they saw."

Following Fox's announcement, a relative of Smith told the Post-Dispatch the family had been asked not to speak about his callback. Smith was not available for comment.

Vazquez is not the first to leave "Idol" unexpectedly, though few have done so willingly. Last year, George Huff was called back to Los Angeles when contestant Donnie Williams was cited for DUI. And in 2003, three contestants were dropped by Fox, two for failing to disclose arrest records and another for posing on an adult-oriented Web site.

WTF -- this is twice now this season where someone has made it and jumped ship... they know full well what they are getting into? Don't they have contracts or something to sign to ensure these disruptions don't happen  Mario... never liked him anyways... good riddance...
