Another reason Dyncorp sucks...

Havent been on here in a bit, figured Id share a story with you guys. Some of you may realize you personally know me from this but, quite frankly, I just dont give a #### anymore. Yeah, one of your co workers smokes weed! Im not looking for any sympathy or anything. So please dont throw the im being a ##### flag!

Well anywho, I had a seizure at work (Dyncorp, VX-23 at Pax) about two weeks ago. I was rushed off to St Mary's. returned to work monday just to be told I cant work till a doctor clears me (completely understandable).
Doc says Im ok except for hights, the company puts me on a medical leave of abscense. I cannot return to work unless a doctor says I can stand on top of airplanes. My boss tells me he will try to find another position for me wich turns out to be a bold face lie. They wont terminate me, so unemployment is out of the question. I understand their reasoning as I could turn around and sue the company under the Americans With Disability Act. So they are playing the waiting game till I either voulantarily quit or get a job somewhere else and can be terminated. In the meantime I have to find a way to feed the family. I know what they are doing is perfectly legal. Just seems really screwed up to tell one of your employees you will try to help them out and never do a damn thing and string them along untill they give up. Anyhow Im starting packing up today, so we can go stay with family in Richmond. Think Im gonna use my GI Bill and go back to school so I can try to get a job that dosent require me to be a mechanic anymore.

If this just happened two weeks ago, why exactly are you so upset? Give your company time to find a position for you (if there is one available). Your safety is most important.

Sometimes it is tough being a contractor. If your company doesn't have a billable position currently for which you can transfer to, most likely they won't keep you on OH. That's just how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Because you were released by your doctor and were able to return to work with a medical restrictions, your boss needs to make accomidations at your current position until you are completely released by your doctor....if he does not do this in a timely manner(within a week or two), you need to go to HR and find a position that does meet your requirements.

I don't believe that you are covered under the ADA, unless this is a permenant condition and you have to be able to prove that it is a lifelong condition....What they are doing is not illegal, however, they can put you on medical leave of absence for 30 days(I think), without paying you, to see if the doctor will release you....if not, then they must either find a positon for you or release you from your employment

You may want to check with the HR deparment, you may be eligible for short-term disability until things get settled

:yeahthat: It's only been two weeks I'm sure thay want to make sure you're not going to have another seizure at work it takes awhile to recover from those. 2 weeks is a very reasonable amount of time to wait. I was out for 6 weeks after I had a TIA. I couldn't drive for awhile which is also usually true of seizures as well. I know it doesn't help but just give it a little more time before you say/do something that would cause them to not want to keep you around. It's a tough economy theses days and jobs are hard to come by good luck

...just like any other company in America. Don't take the hate out on just DynCorp.. Job competition is only going to get worse all over.

Maybe it wasn't a seizure, it was him covering up the fact that he was smoking weed on the job....explains why dyncorp is not making an attempt in finding him a new position

Its kinda hard to fake a Gran Mal seizure. I go unconsious for 20-30 mins and flop around on the ground for about 15 then I quit breathing till I turn blue.
Besides, weed is an anti convulsant.

Smart move. I don't work for Dyncorp but I know a lot of people who do and did in the past, they all say the company sucks.

SO you do smoke weed. And you work on aircraft? I'd fire you.

His Dr didn't give him a full release so he can't come back to work till the Dr does, which sound like that's not happening. The company will wait for 6 months and then get rid of him. He should be able to get short term while he is out. It's not much but it will help.

If he didn't buy short term disability insurance with the Union and only have DynCorp, he have to wait 6 weeks (I think) before he can use short term disability insurance. He need to use all of his vacations up first before he can use the short term insurance. However, if he have purchased short term insurance with the Union, he can start using it right away.

Tomcatter - You should be going to the Union to see if they can help you. They can check into what's going on and what's keeping them from finding you another position.

No he has to be out for 7 days for Dyn disability.

Ah okay. Thanks for clearing that up. Well, he have been out for two weeks. He should be able to use short term disability. Unless he didn't purchase the short term disability.

I think something is fishy here.

My husband didn't have any trouble getting short term disability in 2007 when he had his surgery.

He shouldn't have any problem getting it. He never really indicated he wasn't on it, just that they haven't put in and another position. He won't get any job, you only go up there not down so I don't think that's happening.
