Anyone Else Pre-Order the Galaxy S III?

I'm currently a VZW customer with unlimited data. Is it enough to order the new phone to beat the plan change deadline or does the new phone have to be ordered, arrive, and be activated before the plan change deadline so I can keep my unlimited data?

Well, if the RAZR HD goes for pre-sale in the next week or two (unlikely), then I'll go with that. Right now, I'm leaning towards the SGS3...if the wife is ok with a phone bigger than our current Droid X's.

I pre-ordered the new Galaxy. I was told when i recieve it and activate (sometime after July 9th when it ships), i will still have my unlimited data for $30. Of course, then possibly in Aug. this whole sharable plan stuff may kick in.

My understanding is that if you order (or pre-order as in the case for the SGS3) from VZW, your new contract begins when you order. However, if you pre-order from BestBuy (and probably others), your contract doesn't start until you get the phone from them.

And yes, as we also told you on Monday, pre-ordering will lock you into unlimited data. For those not familiar, Verizon’s pre-order process is not the $50 deposit method that retailers like Best Buy use. With Big Red, you actually purchase the device and extend your contract.

Dumb it down for me more. Are you telling me that if I don't use my free upgrade now to replace my droid x, I will be paying more for this new "shared" stuff instead of the $30 unlimited I already have?

Can I get the 4G phone with this new upgrade and will that cover me?

Funny, it wont recommend anything less than the 8GB plan if you have four phones:)

You must have 4 smartphones? Geez, we have 2 and 2 regular phones. We pay almost $230 now under our current plan. Not much different if I went to 4 smartphones.

The plan change is set to occur on June 28th. Your new contract will activate on July 9th. I'm wondering if the VZW rep gave you bad info. It wouldn't be the first time for that to happen.

I hope this is correct. In the past, when I upgraded, I wasn't committed to the new two year contract until I actually activated the new phone.

Which plan? The Sharable one or the tiered data plan?

I thought those who already had unlimited data get to keep it. Only new customers to Verizon or new to smartphones as of 6/28 had to get the tiered plan?

My understanding is that existing customers with unlimited data can keep it for the remainder of their existing contract. If they upgrade and start a new two year contract prior to June 28th, they keep the unlimited data for the life of the new contract. If they upgrade after June 28th, they fall under the new terms.

The tiered plan is the sharable plan. The shared aspect is a feature of the tiered plan. You pick how much data you want each month and you get to share that one plan with all of the devices on your plan.

If you upgrade before the 28th, you can keep your unlimited plan. If you upgrade after that, you'll loss the unlimited. Yes you can upgrade to a 4G phone now and keep the unlimited.

So how does this work: I am the Acct holder. My upgrade is in Nov '12. When I upgrade I will have to do the share plan. Now hubby can upgrade now. If he upgrades before the 28th he can keep his unlimited data plan. How will that work once I upgrade in Nov?

Yes, since your upgrade will occur after June 28, 2012.

Yes, as long as he upgrades before June 28th. If he doesn't upgrade before June 28th, he will keep the unlimited until such time that he does decide to upgrade.

When you upgrade in Nov, you will loose the unlimited for your line.

However, you can keep unlimited if you buy a phone for the retail price (it may actually be worth it).

Not according to Verizon. I spoke to 3 online reps, 2 phone reps, and a Twitter rep and they all confirmed that because Best Buy's system reserves the phone through their system that you will still keep your unlimited plan.
