Thats the problem with most servers, I believe. They expect a minimum of 20% and if they give good service, they expect more.
I expect 20% when i give GOOD service...15% is just OK..10% is an insult.

That is a pretty good indication that you're not as good as you think you are.

I challenge you to produce a current article that agrees with your :bs:

And what part of "A tip is a gift or sum of money tendered for a service performed or anticipated. It is given voluntarily or beyond obligation", did you not understand?

I always appreicate any tip. If someone left me a penny I would be insulted but I would know it must have been me. I don't dwell on it I just move on.

any server who provides good, friendly service should expect and deserve 20%

That is your opinion. I do not necessarily agree. If you look at the bottom of the credit slip they sign it figures the amounts from 10% _ 20%. So if you think they should start at 20% what is the upper % then?

Same article:

"The thing people ought to understand is a tip is not something the waiter is guaranteed, and that you as a customer ought to relax and do what you think is right and don't be scared,"

A recent nationwide survey suggests 18 percent has become the tipping standard…

That tells me that the survey was asking what the customer typically tips, not what they’re supposed to tip.

Right, and the publisher of the Zagat guide, who frequents restaurants, and writes about them, says that between 15% and 20% is appropriate. To me that says that if I feel like tipping 15%, that's okay. And if I feel like tipping 20%, that's okay too. Who decides what you're supposed to tip?
