‘It Hurts’: Great-Grandson Angered Aunt Jemima’s Legacy Will Be Erased

Earlier this week, Quaker Oats announced that they will be rebranding and removing the name and imagery of their Aunt Jemima brand goods as to apparently not perpetuate “racial stereotypes.”

“We recognize Aunt Jemima’s origins are based on a racial stereotype,” said a statement from Kristin Kroepfl, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Quaker Foods North America. “While work has been done over the years to update the brand in a manner intended to be appropriate and respectful, we realize those changes are not enough.”

“We acknowledge the brand has not progressed enough to appropriately reflect the confidence, warmth and dignity that we would like it to stand for today,” Kroepfl added. “We are starting by removing the image and changing the name. We will continue the conversation by gathering diverse perspectives from both our organization and the Black community to further evolve the brand and make it one everyone can be proud to have in their pantry.”

The Great Grandson appears more unhappy that they aren't getting royalties than really concerned about his Great Grandma's image. Pretty typical.

I'll give all these old food items a few years before they become collectors items or in antique stores.

They might need some younger American Pickers before they are true value.

Power with Control
Payback for not wanting to be brutalized and killed by police?

how dare they!

See, here's the thing...... we all agree that the police shouldn't be doing some of the things they have done, and steps should be taken to prevent those things from happening. But this notion that you can burn, deface, or destroy or shut down anything you disagree with and it's okay because you scream "CAUSE RACISM!!!!!" doesnt fly, and actually hurts the cause.

No one cares about Aunt Jemima or Uncle Ben.

it's the companies making the change. No one from BLM or any other organization has change the name of a pancake syrup at the top of their list of priorities.

Just like land o'lakes changed their Indian maiden these companies are making these changes themselves.
