Aunt Jemima breakfast brand renamed Pearl Milling Company
The Aunt Jemima breakfast brand will be renamed Pearl Milling Company, it was announced Tuesday, after the 130-year-old maple syrup mascot was scrutinized last year over its ties to slavery.
Quaker Oats, a division of PepsiCo that owns the brand, unveiled the new name and logo, which it said would hit store shelves in June.
Pearl Milling Company has historical roots with the brand. It was a small Missouri mill that in 1889 produced the self-rising pancake mix later known as Aunt Jemima.
“While the name on the box has changed, the great tasting products – the “pearl” inside the familiar red box – remains the same, with a mission to create joyful breakfast moments for everyone,” the company said on its website.

On the other hand, that name isn't going to make me think of pancake syrup.
I'm a big Krusteaz fan myself...pancake mix and waffle mix both. And their cornbread mix too...

Aunt Jemima was chosen because she makes people think of comfort. About waking up to the smell of pancakes and syrup on a cold morning. Aunt Jemima herself was a symbol of warmth and love. You see a pic of her and go, "Mmmmmm......pancakes......"
Pearl Milling? Big nope.
I predict their sales will tank hard because they've lost their brand identity and eventually they'll stop producing pancake mix and syrup altogether.

Me too but I can't remember the last time I had a pancake. This place here in SPI does a bacon stuffed waffle that's amazing, and I had one with real maple syrup a month or so ago.
