Best reason for the holiday season

You've got the cart before the horse, there. We're on a higher plain BECAUSE we have a soul. I'm not saying that because we think we're on a higher plain we must have a soul, it's the other way around.I'm not qualified to judge that. However, I would have starved to death, personally.

at the time they were all aceepted back into their religious communities as if nothing had happened, it was considered "normal" and "accepted" under the circumstances.

what makes you think we have a soul and other animals dont is the question i have for you though.

I'm happy for them. I would have starved.

If you're looking for the short answer, I'll say that it's part of my belief system - my understanding of the universe as it unfolds to me.

If you want to know why my belief system is what it is, that'll take A LOT longer. (and probably alcohol will be involved :killingme)

and here i thought there might be some tangible evidence, or at least something more than "just cuz"

does it even say so in the bible? I mean, i see very little difference in the life of a horse and that of a human. the things that make "life" alive are the same for each.

There is a lot more than "just cuz". However, most of it is personal and not something I'd share on a forum. I was once an atheist - pure science. Anything else seemed foolish. Hell, we all know the original "religious" people in the tribes were really the meteorologists, the astrologists, etc. They spoke of what would happen from the gods not from hearing it from Zeus, but from figuring out when the rains would come, the drought, etc.

Then, a series of realizations and revalations came over me. My belief system changed drastically. No, I'm not saying I'm David Koresh or John Jones. However, I became fully entrenched in my beliefs, and nothing has shaken them yet. Indeed, the more science I study, the more I learn, the more convinced I am.

However, it would take three volumes of an encyclopedia to write it all here, and I'm not willing to do that.

This is where we were talking about the life of fire, or a car, or a tree. Life is in these things as well, by any definition of life I've been able to find. Now, you and I both know that a car and fire are not alive. But, find me a definition of life that rejects the aspects of these things.

funny, I've never seen one move of it's own accord.
You were trying to be funny, weren't you?

Tie up a human (like brakes and "Park" on a car) and you won't see a human move of its own accord either.

I've never seen a tree move of it's own accord either.

Certainly machines reproduce. It's called automation. One machine makes another. Now, a baby frog (tadpole) looks and acts nothing like the parent, so a car coming off the assembly line doesn't look like the assembly machine. But, it can virtually all be done mechanically. And, fires adapt. Rob one of some oxygen, and it will get hotter to burn different things. And, I've seen a car commercial that says the windshield wipers recognize the rain and then dry the brakes. Sounds like adaptation to me.

oh I get it .... you're being difficult on purpose.

A human tied up still breathes .... his muscles tense .... his eyes dart about.

Trees are constantly moving on a microscopic level .... also, they are in an almost constant state of growth (it's just that we can't measure it with our eyes).
