Ok everyone, move along. Nothing to see here either....

A couple years ago my uncle saw a deer on the side of the road, and stopped to let it cross. The deer proceeded to jump on the hood of his car.Larry Gude said:Vrai actually had one run into the side of her jeep years ago.
he probably saw his reflection and thought it was another buck and "challenged" him.ylexot said:Oh yeah? I got that beat...a couple years ago I was at work when we heard a bunch of noise outside. A deer had come out of the woods and attacked a car...just one car, probably the furthest car from the woods. The car had hoof marks all over the trunk, roof, and hood. Some people saw it happen, so yes, it was definitely a deer.

NOW that you haven't called the cops, its up to you to prove that it was a deer that caused the accident thus claiming it on comprehensive and not collision and not having your rates increase or paying a deductible.. Hope you have evidence that it was a deer you hit.
ylexot said:You hit a deer with a Honda Civic and went over it? That physically does not make sense. Are you sure it was a deer and not a chihuahua? The CG of a deer (even a baby) would be above the bumper of a Civic, so it should have gone over/into the windshield.

Larry Gude said:...did you see it in time to react and chose to hit it becuase there was nowhere to go?
Did it happen to fast to react?
I've had close calls but never hit one. Vrai actually had one run into the side of her jeep years ago.
With the kids, in teaching them, I've been telling them to just hit it first unless they have time to react and SAFELY, for DAMN sure, avoid it.
The first thing any insurance company I've had asks is the number of the accident report. Just because you aren't leagally required to report an accident doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.notquitesain1 said:yeah, thats all taken care of, and i dont have any deductable to pay. And no matter what the damage unless there is a loss of a human life, you arent required to contact police about hitting a deer

Of course if you'd been drinking, I can understand why you think not reporting the accident is a good idea.
Sounds like you had those "Come here" deer whistles instead of the "Get out of my way" ones.otter said:Hit a deer less than a mile from my house 18 months ago, did 2400 dollars damage to my explorer. I didn't get an accident report, came home and immediately called my insurance company to ask if I needed to. They said no, they would send an adjuster out the next day and check the SUV and verify my report to them. They said there was no reason to get the police involved.
As an aside, thats the only deer I have ever hit and the Explorer is the only vehicle I've ever had that had "deer whistles" on it. Makes me wonder if they really work or they just draw deer to ya.
That's very true!! Always say the deer hit you!!iceeyes9 said:Some insurance companies will charge you at fault if you say "I hit a deer"......so be sure to say "I was hit by a deer!" Can you believe that crap????
Maybe you installed them backward. Turn them aroundotter said:Hit a deer less than a mile from my house 18 months ago, did 2400 dollars damage to my explorer. Whoa. Chill out. Sometimes insurance companies require accident reports. That's a fact.notquitesain1 said:well if i were as stupid as yourself i would have reported it, but the fact of the matter is that the police do not want to be bothered with stupid reports of animals being hit, when they have real issues to deal with. but if you need someone to cry to, go ahead call the police.
