My mom hit a deer with her '79 T-bird when I was a kid.
It dented the passenger-side front fender and did no other damage. :yay:
Of course, finding a new fender in decent shape was $$$

itsbob... did I read that right? You hit a deer on your motorcycle? :yikes: Lucky to be alive, much less keep it upright!

NOT me. Had one member of our club take one out at fairly high speed on a R1150RT, did $7000 (about) worth of damage, kept the bike upright and continued on to dinner. Next day drove his bike to Bob's for an estimate.

The picture is of another rider who hit a deer on the same model bike as mine.. stayed upright also.. I THINK he took a tow to Bob's.

Not so much a testament to the bike as it is these two particular riders abilities..

I try to get a car in front of me anytime I ride at night. Doesn't always work to prevent deer strikes, but it makes me feel better having someone blocking for me!

That's all they did for me las spring. You know, deer are very athletic. . . This one did a back flip! 3,000 lb van x 55mph (130 lb buck hit in shoulder as he popped out in front) = BACKFLIP!
re deer whistles: In the late 1980s I worked one summer in a park called "Land Between the Lakes" in Western KY/TN (park crosses the border). In a space 6 miles wide and 30 miles long they had something like 6,000 deer. The park vehicles averaged 100+ deer strikes per year until installing the whistles and then I was cut to something like 50 per year.
Ss it would appear that they help somewhat.

Mine seem to work...we'll see. Last week 4 deer scattered from the road instead of standing and staring in the lights.

Yes, unfortunately that R1150RS was mine a 2004. Picked it up on Thursday November 3 and hit the deer on Tuesday night November 8. The accident happened at 5:40 pm. I had just turned out of the office onto Loudoun County Parkway. I accelerated up to 45mph, just at the end of the MCI buildings I hit the deer. I didn't even get the chance to use the nice ABS brakes that were on the bike. It happened so fast, it was like a bad horror movie flashing by the killer. I have to say that I did kill the deer. Was able to get a picture of it the next day. Pretty much cut the deer almost in half. I hit the deer pretty much in its mid section. Luckily for me I was able to keep the bike on two wheels and not put it down. So hopefully the damage is all cosmetic. Waiting on my estimate from Bob's as to what the total cost of the damage is. Have more pictures if people are interested in seeing.

REFERENCE the picture of the bike I posted, this is the owner coming forward. He bought the bike with 365 miles on the Odometer, and now it sits in Bob's service dept with 595... didn't even make it to the first service!

Bob, gotta tell you, you have it worse than any Harley owner I have ever seen. You may not have a drawer full of BMW T-shirts but you might as well have. :lmao:

Being that BMW is so technologically advanced ; How come this guys Deer detector didn't go off, sending an aural warning via the MP3 player helmet mounted ear phones and automatically apply the ABS while feeding proximity info to the GPS so the GPS could plot a collision avoidance track and put it up on the HUD? Did the SATCOM take the collision/tip trigger and beam lat/long info from the GPS and relay it through BMWstar so they could dispatch first responders? Was the auto deploy center stand able to right the bike? :lmao:
