better than what?

Better than thinking there is a "first person in line" on a highway.

That's like saying there's a first Water Molecule that causes the tide.

I hang in the second from the left and keep the cruise at 55

Safety first, eh? I'm amazed you're still alive doing that.

I dont shift over to the right until I get past RT1, then I have to deal with the idiots that think they can shoot up the off ramp to 95 but at the last minute they try to force back in front. I dont let them in

Me either. I hate idiots like that.

Another place that's horrible for that is the merge between 355 and 495 up in Bethesda. There's a huge sign that says, "Lane Ends 2000 feet", yet people always want to get in the merge lane right around that sign and shoot to the front and snarl traffic all up.

Piss on 'em. I will see someone in hell before I let them in, when they do that.

So - we can at least agree on one thing when it comes to driving.

to be honest, when I go in, 55 in the second from the left is pretty safe, Not too often I get tailgated and I dont run up on the people in front. Seems like a pretty standard speed for that lane. The only issue is the jerckoffs that race up the left most lane at 80mph then do the four lane drift to the right to hit their exit just in time.

Its every on ramp starting with the 95 split, then they jump back on the on ramp for 650, do it again at 29 and on it goes.
I drive among what must be some very damn important people.

Well, those are two categories of drivers that I care not a whit about. If someone is tailgating they're asking for wahtever trouble they get. Luckily, I have encountered very few of those over the past couple years. And when I have, it was not in a dense traffic situation. So I found no reason to change what I was doing on their account.

I'm not sure what time you go in, or what your traffic situation is but I have a feeling that if I tried driving 55 in the third lane during my commute (either morning or evening), I'm just begging to have my car's trunk rammed firmly into my rectum.

In fact... Cruise Control at any speed is a recipe for disaster, except for a few spots on Rt. 4.

It is Washington D.C. after all. Politicians, royalty, religious leaders, various diplomats and heads of state...

And everyone else who fancy themselves as important... they're all entitled to be ahead of us pissants. ####ING NATIONAL SECURITY IS AT RISK!

Had to look up my password to log in on this one.. I have no love for Left Laners.... They are the cholesterol of the highway.. No driving etiquette, in my opinion. They are the same kind of people that fart in elevators or crop dust the frozen food section at the supermarket. I truly believe they get off knowing they are breeding road rage and are the primary root cause of it.

I'm guessing some posters in this thread put their LEFT hand on their chest when saying the pledge of allegiance, since using your right hand is not the law, but common courtesy.

What does that have to do with common courtesy?

slow people please just move over and get over it. Everybody drives 60+ mph and most 70+. If its possible for you to move over then do it!!. Its beyond rude to ride in the left lane at 55 mph keeping pace with another car doing 55 mph in the right. Pass them and get over! Its simple, courteous and less dangerous than holding up a line of traffic. Its common friggin sense people. Sockgirl can whine about not having to do it per the annotated code...blah , blah, blah.. We will put that on your tombstone as they try to remove the bumper from the back of your skull.

Everybody does it? What are you 15?

Can't be, my assumption is everyone's left hand is cut off since no one uses turn signals. :ohwell:

This is a snapshot of my dash showing the Economy readout when I run at 55 on cruise without slowing and speeding up for people merging.
If I move to the right and start to constantly slow and speed up, I drop to 19.? pretty quick. If I run at 65 I drop to low 24 to high 23, go to 70 and I will be around 18.5. On one trip down 95 I held with traffic at 85 and 90, I rolled into my destination at 14.7.

I assume that we can see where at $4.00 a gallon right now, one might wish to be as economical as possible. and that does not happen in the right lane.
So, I do the speed limit in the lane closest to the right that I am able to maintain a constant speed.

Imo, if you are doing the speed limit, you can use whatever lane you want. I will not risk an accident getting out of someone's way so they can break the law. End of discussion.

If you read the thread an the posts, I believe you would have found that it is not your opinion! If anything, it is common sense and courtesy. If there is no one in the right lane and faster vehicles are behind you in the left, just scoot over please, or be a jerk and receive the finger as they go around you on the right....

You know that you are starting to win when the MPDs have to come out against you to increase their numbers.

another great day to drive the speed limit, enjoy it everyone.

Oh that one-finger salutation… I love it when people do that. People feel so safe confined in their little shelters of steel, plastic, and glass; doing things they’d never do face-to-face.

And here is what proves who is the Ass.

if there is, as your posts suggests, no one in the right lane, (you did type that right?) why is it so hard for you to be the one to slide right, pass then move back in when you have gained a safe distance from the person driving the limit?

Is it an insult to your assumed superiority for someone not to instantly move over for your greatness?
